Chairperson's note

Dear Ones,

I feel a great strength by my side in knowing that we are so many women worldwide who are coming together, sharing a vision for bringing about a positive change in society.

Women have been a leading light since time immemorial, be it in the household or in society. The reason for success in many developmental programs is that She is so actively involved. A woman is the epitome of creativity and the synonym for progress.

The beautiful Ganges River in India and the powerful Amazon River in South America are named after the Feminine. The Amazon supports almost one-third of the world’s species. The river is beautiful and useful, supporting a diverse range of life.

Just like that a woman also has been a major contributing factor in life’s glory. She has glorified human history and added color, beauty and strength to it in many ways. Ancient civilizations, be it the Mayan, the Incas, the Aztec, the Egyptian, the Greek, the Sumerian or Indian civilizations, reveal clear examples where women have been honored and treated with dignity and played leadership roles in society. In India, she was called “Sthree Dhana”- equivalent to wealth. She would own and inherit everything including any property or wealth.

Over time, somewhere, these values were eroded. As leaders, what can we do to restore the value systems?

We, as women leaders, can share and support each other with our strengths. Together we can look forward to creating a better world where women are in the forefront taking responsibility for a violence-free world.

A good leader gets work done efficiently, creates team spirit with calmness and serenity. This calmness and inner strength that is the greatest force of transformation is the gift of spirituality.

Only a lit candle can light others. So Let us light and lighten up!

With warm regards,

Bhanumathi Narsimhan
