The January 2011 floods in Queensland, Australia, have left thousands displaced, with three quarters of the state declared a disaster zone. The residents of Brisbane and Ipswich witnessed the worst floods inthe last 37 years, which left 970 people seeking refuge in evacuation centers. Recovery work is in progress, with complete support from The Art of Living volunteers, who are not only on a cleaning spree, but are also coordinating relief work activities in Brisbane.

On January 15, The Art of Living volunteers (12 in total) gathered at the Milton State School - a prominent spot in Brisbane and started cleaning up homes (mopping, brushing, and wheel barrowing the soaked goods) that were full of a tar-like sludge left by the receding waters.

The following day, work started at 7.30 in the morning with 11 volunteers, who shoveled mud and silt from homes and kept at it all day. Though, it was a mighty task, the volunteers mounted it by hard work and perseverance.

The residents were extremely pleased and grateful to the The Art of Living volunteers for their enthusiasm and timely help. Visit this page for more news and updates.

“I had decided to go back to my anti-depressants before this (The Art of Living) course, but now I don’t need them. I will practice these techniques every single day for the rest of my life. I only hope other people are lucky enough to take this course. It has given me more help than I could have ever imagined possible. Thank you.”

"Before this experience, I was sad, depressed and starting to lose hope because of the situation here in Iraq. Now, after only four days, I feel confident in myself – happier, have hopes and dreams again and I feel that life is so beautiful. I have started to love everyone and physically I have much more energy and am able to do more things. I want to thank you very much for helping all of us feel better.”
