In 1981 during a period of 10 days silence this kriya was revealed to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during deep meditation. He named the kriya “Sudarshan” – “Su” meaning proper and “darshan” vision – to describe the activity which through practice lends to a proper vision of oneself – a self beyond name, identity and relationships; a self that is pure love, joy and peace.
Realizing the powerful impact of the Sudarshan kriya Sri Sri decided to share the technique with the rest of humanity and started touring the globe to promote a stress-free and violence- free society. The Sudarshan Kriya has been found to highly effective in trauma relief camps in countries that have been hit by natural and man-made disasters, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, rehabilitation of prison inmates, in schools and colleges.
