Q. Are there separate registrations for Art of Silence and Sudarshan Chakra Kriya?
A. No. Art of Silence can be taken alone, or with Sudarshan Chakra Kriya. Eligible participants enrolled in the Art of Silence course will be allowed to participate in the Sudarshan Chakra Kriya sessions.

Q. I did Sudarshan Chakra Kriya with Gurudev earlier this year. Can I repeat it?
A. Yes

Q. When does ‘Art of Silence with Gurudev’ course start and end?
A. The course starts at 10 AM On Dec 26th and ends on Dec 29th at 2:30pm. All sessions are mandatory – no exceptions for late arrivals. Please also allow 2.5 hours to travel from the Charlotte Airport to the International Center. We do encourage participants to arrive on the afternoon of December 25th in order to participate in the Christmas Celebrations planned for that day.

Q. When do I arrive to check-in and register?
A. The on-site Registration Desk for all courses will be open from at 2PM on Dec 25th. We encourage you to arrive on the afternoon of Dec 25th in order to attend the Christmas celebrations planned for that day,

Q. What is the course fee? Is there an early bird discount that is being offered?
A. The course fee for Art of Silence with Sri Sri is $995 per person. The early bird registration fee is $895 through December 11th at midnight. This fee includes all meals starting with dinner on Dec 25th, and ending with lunch on Dec 29th. Note-the course fee does not include accommodations. Accommodations for 4 nights is $100. It is recommended that you choose on-site housing to deepen your experience of silence and avoid travel issues from outside of the campus due to the potential for inclement weather during this time of year.

Q. Does the course fee include meals?
A. Yes. The course fee includes all meals for the duration of the course, starting with dinner on 12/25, breakfast, lunch and dinner on 12/26-12/28 and ending with lunch on 12/29. All meals are vegetarian.

Q. Does the ‘Art of Silence with Sri Sri’ course fee include housing?
A. No. Shared housing (4 per room) is available at the International Center with men and women housed separately, at a rate of $100 per person for the four nights (12/25-12/28). Center housing should be booked at the time of your online registration.

Q. What are the housing check-in and check-out time?
The Art of Silence course participants may check-in to their assigned housing on Dec 25th beginning at 2 pm. Check-out must be completed no later than 10 am on Dec 29th.

Q. What is the cancellation policy for ‘Art of Silence with Sri Sri’?
A. Written cancellation request is required prior to the course start date to process any refund. Written cancellation requests received up to 10 days before the course starts ---- Full refund minus $100 processing fee. Written cancellation requests received 10 days or less before the course starts ----$450 refunded. No shows for course ---- No refunds except in case of emergency.

Q. What are the timings of the Blessings Course?
A. The Blessings Course will begin promptly at 10 AM on December 26th. The last session is scheduled to end at 2:30 PM on December 29th. Please note that late arrivals will not be able to attend the course.

Youth Courses

Q. What youth courses are being offered? What are the requirements?

A. The Art Excel Course is being offered for children between the ages of 8 and 13. The Youth Empowerment Seminar – YES! Course is being offered for children between the ages of 14 and 17. There are no additional pre-requisites.

Q. How will children be housed at the International Center?

A. If you are coming with your family, you have the option to stay together on Center premises, and save on course fee for your family members, including children. Once one of the adult family member has registered, please follow this link to request FAMILY DISCOUNT AND FAMILY HOUSING The ART Excel and Yes! Courses being offered in December are residential programs. Children will be housed with their parents. Week-long Silent Retreat with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Q. What is the week-long silent retreat?
A. The Week-long Silent Retreat with Sri Sri is a combination of the ‘Art of Living’ course (Part-1) & ‘Art of Silence’ course. Participants will learn a powerful breathing technique, Sudarshan Kriya, and participate in daily meditation, yoga and evening kirtan chanting and experience the depth of silence.

Q. What are the pre-requisites to attend ‘Week-long Silent Retreat with Sri Sri’?
A. Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Q. I have already done Art of Living and/or Art of Silence course before. Can I still participate?
A. Yes. The retreat is open to all participants, 18 years of age and older. There are no other prerequisites to attend.

Q. When does ‘ Week-long Silent Retreat with Sri Sri’ start and end?

Q. What is the fee? Is there an early bird discount that is being offered?
A. The course fee is $ 1245 with the early bird discount pricing that ends Dec 11th at midnight EST, after which the course fee increases to $1345. The fee includes accommodation for 7 nights and all meals starting with dinner on Dec 22nd and ending with lunch on Dec 29th.

Q. Does the fee include meals?
A. Yes. The course fee includes all meals for the duration of the retreat, starting with dinner on 12/22, breakfast, lunch and dinner on 12/23-12/28 and ending with lunch on 12/29. All meals are vegetarian.

Q. What kind of meals are served?
A. All the meals are made fresh daily at the Center and will be vegetarian. The food is kept light and fresh to facilitate deep meditations.

Q. Does the fee include housing?
A. Yes. The Week-long Silent Retreat is a residential retreat, allowing the participants to maximize their experience of rest and nature. Housing is included in the course fee. When you register, please select a housing option and fill out the information on the housing page. This information will help the organizing team take the best care of your needs. Housing is in four-shared accommodations with men and women housed separately. Participants also have the option to stay at the luxurious Blue Heaven resort and Spa on the premises.

Q. What are the housing check-in and check-out times?
A. The Week-long Silent Retreat participants may check into their assigned housing on Dec 22nd, between 3 pm and 8 pm. The check-out must be completed no later than 10 am on Dec 29th.

Q. Are there scholarships or discounts being offered?
A. The courses during the December event in Boone have been offered with a special discounted fee structure. The special pricing is for a limited time. No additional scholarships or discounts will be offered during this time.

Q. What is the cancellation policy for the event?
A. A written cancellation request is required. Written cancellation requests received up to 10 days before the course starts - Full refund minus $100 processing fee. Written cancellation requests received 10 days or less before the course starts -$500 refunded. No shows for course - No refunds except in the case of an emergency.

Q. Can I work in between sessions?
A. The retreat has a full schedule. There will not be opportunities to work or visit the city once the course starts.

On-site Registration/Check-in

Q. Where will the on-site Registration Desk be located at the venue and what are the timings?
A. We encourage everyone to register online in advance to guarantee a spot on the course. Location of the on-site registration desk on the center premises will be sent to all the participants prior to their arrival.

Q. Do I need to bring anything with me to complete my registration on-site?
A. Please bring a photo ID with you, as it is required to complete your registration. It is also advisable to bring the e-mail confirmation you received when you registered on-line or have it available on a mobile device.
Q. My family member or friend registered me for the event will they need to be there with me when I check in?
A. All participants must be registered on-line under their own name. If somebody else has completed the on-line registration for you in his or her name, please contact us immediately, so this can be corrected and your registration process is not delayed. Q. I registered my spouse/family member/friend under my name?
A. It is required for all participants to register on-line under their own name. If you registered a friend or family member on-line under your name, please contact us at immediately at silence.boone@us.artofliving.org
Q. Can I complete the registration process for my friend/family member, etc?
A. Each adult event participant will need to sign their own registration form when they arrive at the registration desk.
Q. I plan to register on-site and pay when I arrive there, will this be permitted?
A. Yes. However, we will be able to accept on-site registrations only if we still have open spots. It is recommended that you register on-line as soon as possible to avoid any disappointments.
Q. How can I pay if I register for the event on the spot?
A. We will only be able to accept payments via cash or credit card. No personal checks will be accepted

 

Accommodation

Q. Does the fee include housing?
A. Please check specific housing information as described on the registration page for the course you are planning to take.

Q. How do I book a room to stay within the International Center for Meditation & Well Being premises?
A. Accommodation at the International Center for Meditation & Well Being is limited and available on first come first serve basis and only to registered course participants. All housing will be shared, with 4 people per room. Men and women will be housed separately. The housing can be booked at the time of online registration for course participants. Please check the content on the respective registration page.

Q. What kind of accommodation will I get at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being?
A. At the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being, shared accommodation is available. Each room at the International Center has an attached bathroom. You will be provided with either a bed or a mattress, plus sheets, a blanket and a towel. Sleeping bags are not allowed. Note that the buildings do not have elevators and the rooms do not have refrigerators. For those participants that wish to upgrade their accommodations, limited rooms are available at the beautiful and scenic Blue Heaven Resort and Spa that is located on the campus of the International Center.

Q. How do I book accommodations at the Blue Heaven Resort and Spa?

Q. Can I choose my roommates?
A. If you are staying at the International Center for Meditation & Well Being, you will be asked to mention your preferred room-mate’s name during the registration process. We will do our best to accommodate your preference but is not guaranteed.

Q. I am traveling with my kids. Is there a Family Housing option?

Q. When will I get my room assignment at the Center?
A. If you have paid for housing at the Center, your room assignment will also be provided at the time of your on-site check-in.
Q. Are there lockers available at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being?
A. Lockers are not available at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being. We encourage you not to bring any valuables. Please be mindful that rooms don’t have locks. You may bring a lock for your suitcase, if you wish. For every item you bring, please label with your name. This will help identify items, in case they are misplaced.

Q. Who should I contact, in case I need something during the event?

Parking & Transportation

Q. Is there parking at the International Center for Meditation & Well-Being premises?
A. There is very limited participant parking at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being. If you are planning to drive to Boone, please read the information below carefully.
• Parking preference will be given to course participants staying on-site within the Center premises and carpooling with more than 3 in the car.
• In order to facilitate parking for everyone at the Center we recommend that you carpool with fellow course participants as much as possible. Details to arrange carpooling coming soon.
• Any cars not parked in designated areas will get towed at the owner's expense.
• Art of Living/VVM assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to vehicles parked at the parking lot within the International Center for Meditation and Well–Being.

Q. Will there be shuttle service available to/from any airport?
A. Shuttle services between Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) and the International Center for Meditation and Well-being are available for your convenience at an additional cost.

Q. Are the meals for the duration of the course covered in the course fee?
A. Yes. Your course fee includes all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) for the duration of the course, usually starting with a meal before the first session and ending with a meal after the last session of the course. Please check information under your specific course for details.

Q. Will the food be vegetarian?
A. All food provided will be cooked fresh, wholesome and vegetarian. The meals are designed to be light on the digestive system in order to facilitate deeper meditations.

Q. I am on a special diet. How do I get special food during the course?
A. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate any special diet or food preferences. However, you may bring special food/snacks for yourself that are vegetarian, easy to store in your room and do not require any refrigeration or cooking.

Q. I have serious allergic reaction to certain foods. What do I do for meals during the course?
A. Please note that we are not able to accommodate any personal diet/food preferences. However, please write to us at Silence.Boone@us.artofliving.org with details of your medical/health related food allergies. All food allergies must be submitted in writing by e-mail, no later than Dec 1, 2013. We will confirm whether we are able to accommodate your special needs by Dec 15, 2013 Also, you may bring special food/snacks for yourself that are vegetarian, easy to store in your room and do not require any refrigeration or cooking.

Q. Will there be water fountains in the premises?
A. Yes. There will be water dispensers around the meditation hall/course venue. Please bring a refillable water bottle with you.

Q. I have some special foods/snacks that I want to bring for myself. Is there a place to store the items?
A. You can bring non-perishable healthy food items which do not require refrigeration, such as granola, multi-grain crackers, cereal/ protein bars, some fruits and nuts.

 

Hospitality

Q. I forgot to bring something, what can I do? Can I run to the store during the course to pick up needed items?
A. Please check if the item is available at our on-site store. If not, since you may be in Silence, you can write down the needed items and give your request to the hospitality desk. There will be envelopes and index cards at the desk available for this purpose. Include the amount of money (cash only in USD) needed to purchase the item and the hospitality team will purchase the item within 24 hours of your request and hold the item for you at the desk.

Q. What if I lose something during the event?
A. It is best not to bring valuable items to the event. Whenever possible, write your name and contact information on commonly used items so that if lost they are easily returned to you. Most importantly, be mindful and double check that you have all your items with you before leaving. There will also be a lost and found station at the hospitality desk.

Q. Do I need to label my belongings?
A. We recommend that you label all your belongings with your name. This will help identify your items easily, in case they are misplaced.

Q. If I hurt myself or get sick, what should I do?
A. Notify the Hospitality Desk immediately.

Q. What if I miss an important announcement or schedule changes. How will I know what's going on?
A. Important announcements and changes will be posted at the Hospitality Desk. You can check for daily updates and get information.

In & Around the International Center for Meditation & Well Being

Q. How far is the walk from Meditation/Course hall to the Dining Hall?
A. It is a 2 minute walk from the Meditation/Course hall to the Dining Hall. We suggest carrying a flash-light in the evenings.

Q. Where is the ‘Lost & Found’ desk?
A. By the Hospitality Desk.

Q. Are there elevators in the buildings where participants will be staying?
A. There are no elevators in the building where participants will be staying within the International Center for Meditation and Well-being. We encourage all participants to pack light and bring comfortable walking shoes.

Q. Is the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being handicap accessible?
A. International Center will be made handicap accessible as much as possible. However, there are a few areas where the center has some stairs. The dining area is separate from the Meditation/Course hall. There will be internal shuttle services provided for those requiring assistance.

Q. Are there any particular items that I need to bring with me?
A. It is recommended that you carry the following items:

• Dress in layers to ensure your comfort during fluctuations in temperature.
• December in Boone is expected to be cold and winter precipitation is possible. Participants should bring warm clothing and appropriate outerwear, including boots, hats, gloves and scarves, ponchos and umbrellas.
• Comfortable walking shoes for when the weather is milder
• Any personal items you may need (toiletries, etc.)

Q. Anything else I need to consider bringing along?

• Earplugs if you are a light sleeper and sharing a room with people you do not know

Visitors

Q. We are not registered for any course/program. When can we visit the International Center during the event?
A. Kindly note that due to the special nature of the courses and necessity of providing a quiet environment and space for the course participants, the International Center will be closed to visitors from Dec 21st – Dec 29th. You are welcome to visit Dec 30th onwards. The only exception is during the Christmas Event on December 25th at which time all are invited,.
