A Hindu Religious Leaders’ Caucus on HIV/AIDS

  • Venue : Art of Living International Center, Bangalore, India
  • Issue addressed : The growing threat of AIDS: 33 million people worldwide suffer from AIDS with the HIV virus infecting 7,000 people everyday.
  • Aim : To achieve the 6th Millennium Development Goal (combat HIV/AIDS), spread awareness about the disease and reduce discrimination against affected persons.
  • Partners : UNAIDS and Asian Interfaith Network on AIDS (AINA)

Outcomes

  • Hindu religious leaders pledged to make HIV education a part of their religious discourses and be involved in active counseling
  • They also pledged to fight the stigma and discrimination associated with AIDS
