Campaign for Sri Lankan Tamils

13 Aug 2012 The Hindu

A campaign to press for Indian citizenship status for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees is being organised across Tamil Nadu by the Art of Living, according to a release.

The signatures will be collected at the Art of Living centres.

Camps

In the release, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, “more than one lakh Sri Lankan refuges were living in and around 100 camps in Tamil Nadu since 1983. Tamils who had fled to the U.S. and European countries are leading a dignified life as they are integrated into the society of those countries.” The Indian Government had granted citizenship status for refugees from countries like Bangladesh but Sri Lankan Tamils were left to live in refugee camps, he said.
