Goat represents the mundane existence. The goat eating away the scriptures might mean that when the alertness is lost then the the mundane worldly activities eat up the knowledge within us. We become goat like, grazing on our daily activities which is boring but without alertness we become accustomed to it and lead ourselves to self destruction.
