'Happiness Walkathon' to promote healthy lifestyle

23rd of Mar 2015

A WALKATHON is taking place today to inspire a healthy lifestyle and fitness.

The 'Happiness Walkathon', organised by Art of Living Bahrain, will be held at the Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd.

It is being held on International Day of Happiness, which recognises the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of people.

"This is an awareness programme for health and wellness and how to live better," event director Adnan Alqassab told the GDN.

Registration starts at 4pm and the 3-km walk starts at 5pm.

The event will cost BD1 for adults and is free for children under 10, and everyone will be provided with a t-shirt.

"We're expecting between 400 to 500 people to take part in the event," added Mr Alqassab.

"Anyone over three years old can take part and we will also have entertainment on the day for participants.

"A lot of people don't know about this society, especially what it does although it organises a lot of great programmes.

"It doesn't have a lot of money to run the society, but its officials will be there to answer any questions people might have.

"Having a walkathon is important because we want to encourage people to go out and breathe fresh air and be part of this community."

Registration counters will be set up near the fountain at the main entrance of the park.

The event is being supported by the Muharraq Municipality, Interior Ministry, Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry, HSBC, Royal Bahrain Hospital and VFC Bahrain.

Royal Bahrain Hospital will be providing medical assistance at the start and finish of the race, as well as at a halfway point. There will be water stations along with the medical stations.

Participants will also be able to have their blood pressure taken and sugar levels checked.

The Art of Living was founded in 1982 and has branches in 155 countries around the world.
