Kali

By Bhanumathi Narasimhan

Kali represents the blackness (darkness) which is in the pupil of the eye. This is the main receiver of light. Without it vision is not possible. She is the one who emanates and receives the light of knowledge. Kali is the center of knowledge.

Kali wears a garland of skulls representing ego-less-ness. A skull represents ego and is ugly. Whenever arrogance and ego show their heads, Kali destroys them and brings us back to our natural self full of joy and enthusiasm. A garland is worn close to the heart.

Kali’s form is fearful. If someone could love that fearful form, then fear disappears from the mind. The fear is transformed into love because it is only one energy that manifests as fear or love. When you surrender to and love Mother Kali you become brave.

Kali represents relentless courage. She completes the task she takes up irrespective of any impediments on the path.
