Orissa Floods 2011

Floods have wreaked havoc in 30 Orissa districts, with districts like Kendrapara, Puri, Jajpur, Sambalpur, Sundergarh and Balasore as the worst affected. Around 14 lakh people have been affected across 19 districts in the state.

Having a solid track record in executing relief work all over the world, the Art of Living Foundation immediately plunged into action. The Bhubaneswar Chapter of the Art of Living along with The Supreme Ching Hai International Association organized various relief and free health checkup camps in the affected districts. In most of the districts they were the first ones to reach out to.

The volunteers along with a team of specialized doctors worked tirelessly reaching out to around ten thousand people in camps which were organized at Bada Ankola and Sana Ankola Fakirpada in Delanag block and Hellari Jamara U.P.School in Goap block of Puri district, Aul, Indupur and Ratnagiri of Kendrapara district, Basri Area, Bhurunga Panchayat of Bari P.S, Bhingarpur, Sujanpur of Jajpur. Essential items like cooked food, clothes, medicines, and distilled water pouches were distributed.

“I had decided to go back to my anti-depressants before this (The Art of Living) course, but now I don’t need them. I will practice these techniques every single day for the rest of my life. I only hope other people are lucky enough to take this course. It has given me more help than I could have ever imagined possible. Thank you.”

"Before this experience, I was sad, depressed and starting to lose hope because of the situation here in Iraq. Now, after only four days, I feel confident in myself – happier, have hopes and dreams again and I feel that life is so beautiful. I have started to love everyone and physically I have much more energy and am able to do more things. I want to thank you very much for helping all of us feel better.”
