YES! + Course (18-30 yrs)

Youth Empowerment and Skills Workshop

A powerful life-skills program, that charges the youth with a fresh breath of vigor, enthusiasm, excellence and responsibility. YES!+ enables you to absorb the freshness, the repose and all the positivity around you, and helps you discharge stress, inhibitions, bad habits, and barriers.

YES!+ is a brilliant mix of antiquity and the contemporary. It is a smooth blend of ancient wisdom, yoga, pranayama (breath control), and meditation, fused with contemporary intellectual exchanges, music and games. And of-course it includes Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s powerful and famous breathing technique, the Sudarshan Kriya.

Our Teachers

Bawa

With a postgraduate in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Khurshed Batliwala, or “Bawa” as he is fondly known (a nick name that has stuck from his IIT days) is an extraordinary personality. Deciding “it was better to teach people meditation and make them happy rather than teach them mathematics and make them miserable” he chose the unconventional and challenging career path as a faculty member and a trainer with The Art of Living, sharing the vision of its founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, “To see a smile on every face on the planet.” A myriad personality, Bawa is committed to utilizing every moment of his time in enriching the lives of people around. Apart from conducting youth workshops, Bawa also conducts other workshops such as the Mathemagic, which makes maths fun and interesting; the Financial Literacy Workshop, a seminar on unconventional concepts on money management and wealth generation; and an introductory workshop on Western Classical Music appreciation. Recently he put together a workshop that s makes daily cooking an enjoyable experience. Being a techno - geek, he brings to the table a meld of cutting edge technology, deep knowledge of Indian traditions along with the most amazing delicacies he so passionately prepares. His passions include computer games, long walks, good food and caring about the environment and animals. His love for writing has translated to one of the most visited blogs – bawandinesh.name a blog in which both Bawa and Dinesh contribute, much to the delight of YES!+ grads!

Dinesh

Nothing is more apt, in describing Dinesh, than the statement “Presence speaks more than words.” Just a few moments in his company are enough to justify it. Dinesh Ghodke is a B. Tech. from IIT Mumbai. Along with Bawa he is the director of World Alliance for Youth Empowerment (WAYE) that was launched on Christmas Eve, 2006. Dinesh has been a senior trainer with the Art of Living for the last 13 years. His life is dedicated to spreading the knowledge of his Guru, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. His childhood passion has been to excel in whatever he does. A “born winner”, be it sports or academics, his tenacity has always helped him to be a cut above the rest. An athlete, a gymnast and also the chess champ of IIT, Dinesh also loves to play football. He is an exercise freak. Joining him for a physical exercise session may prove to be very dangerous because when you think you can’t do it anymore, Dinesh has just started! Through the YES!+ (Youth Empowerment and Skills) workshops that Bawa and Dinesh designed, with the guidance of Sri Sri, they have been training youth all over the world to excel in their personal and professional lives while being socially responsible as well.

There used to be a lot of distraction like TV, friends etc. But now after doing the course, I can read for hours together without any distraction. And my reading speed has almost tripled. I can comprehend faster and complete huge books in a matter of few days. There is no distraction at all. I could have never done this before."

My experience of YES+ course taken by Rajesh bhaiya was very soothing. I learnt that the biggest disease is "what the others will say." I also came to know that I can control my heart and my mind through sudarshan kriya. I also realized that my worrying over little matters is not going to do me any good. Instead, I must find solution to my problems rather than worrying about them. Thanks YES!+ for everything!

YES+ has taught me how to lead my life with a persistent smile on my face. I have realized my biggest problem was that I was worried about other people's reactions to my actions, rather than living in my own natural way. Sudarshan kriya and Surya namaskar has helped me in keeping my energy levels higher than ever before. My concentration level has improved tremendously and now I can study much better. Thank you guruji and Rajesh bhaiya (my YES+ instructor)!

From Day 1 we all had loads of fun and incredible learning, never a boring moment. My smile has broadened. I wouldn’t have dreamt of quitting non-veg and alcohol, but with, one talk with Rajesh (teacher), it was possible. The high sudarshan kriya gives, the happiness, the elation, compares to nothing in this world. Now I think about everything in a totally different manner, to make this world, my nation, my surroundings an incredible place to be in. If people think this course must be a thing for the old and the depressed they must open their eyes. Every person in this world must start living with such knowledge and I would really love to contribute as much as I can to the cause.

Amazing experience! 7 days of this course has given me a lot of important ideas and knowledge to develop myself. I have been feeling physically fit. And gained enormous confidence through kriyas we do. It’s not only me who observed the change , but many of my friends also noticed this in me. I am grateful to my friends and parents who informed me about the course. I think this course is a necessity and should be taught to all. I would love to work for Art of Living in the future.
Sandeep Karande

Before doing the YES!+ course, I was a very introverted and self conscious person. I almost never participated in any extracurricular activity in IIT due to this. The YES!+ course gave me a platform for the first time to come face my fears and overcome them. After the course, I realized that I had become more comfortable in meeting new people and talking on stage. The course also helped me immensely in dealing with my friends and handling peer pressure. Unlike many of my friends at IIT, I did not get addicted to drinking, smoking, computer games and pornography. The course also helped me in handling all my commitments efficiently. I started investing my time in organizing many events in IIT rather than sitting back lazily in my room.
Nitin Salodkar

I did the course in Sept 2007. I had a great experience of the Yes!+ course. It opened my mind to a lot of things and possibilities like being friendly with unknown people, managing time, effective working in a team and on the whole, helped me understand myself better. Above all, it introduced me to Sudarshan Kriya - a miracle of the modern world!

2nd Year, B.Tech (Engineering Physics)
I did the YES!+ course in the last semester of the year. It helped me manage my time efficiently and be focused, calm and relaxed at the same time. After the course I transcended my shortcomings and started interacting with seniors and other batch mates more easily and thatgave me the energy and enthusiasm to take up more co-curricular activities and responsibilities and to fulfill them skillfully and in time. My relationship with my family has also improved. Apart from all this, I improved my grades and also started studying more than just regular semester courses. I have many close good friends which are like my family members now. Most importantly it gave me a wonderful opportunity to serve others and express my gratitude towards the society I'm a part of. In short, YES!+ brought Excellence in every aspect of my life!

M.Tech 2 year
I did The YES!+ course from ART OF LIVING FOUNDATION in Sept 2006.It has been the greatest thing I ever did. Coming to IIT for an M.Tech. I was really thrown into a serious mess, where I was unable to cope up with the high standards of professionalism. I was unable to perform to the best of my abilities. The atmosphere here was no doubt the best in terms of infrastructure and academics but I was feeling absolutely cornered and dejected. There seemed to be no way by which I could revert back to my happy, calm and relaxed self and as a result I could only get an SPI of 8.05. My DGPA for the B.Tech was 9.23. After doing the course, and practicing the techniques regularly, I was able to gather myself. I started feeling at home at IIT. I do not think I gave extra efforts or anything but this calm and relaxed temperament helped me to secure an SPI of 9.4 the very next semester. I never thought I would be back to my old self despite so much of prevailing competition and peer pressure. Today I am enjoying the life here in IIT and Mumbai. Thanks to YES!+.

Dual Degree 5 yr (Mechanical Engineering)
I did my YesPlus course just after 2nd year at IIT Bombay. If I have to list down the top five things which I got from the course they would be: being more comfortable with myself. Improving communication skills. Career oriented decision making. Skills to handle my relationships, especially with parents. Balancing my studies with extracurricular activities. It is because of Yes!+ that I was able to maintain a CPI of 9.22 in my fifth year. As a Dual Degree student I also have a very good extracurricular track record now.

During the course, I learnt quite a few subtle things and some obvious things which I had overlooked till now. For example: Simplicity in thinking. How, being committed brings out the best in me. How can I be more effective in my presentation and inter-personal communication by making slight changes in the words I use and the way I express myself. I became aware about my personality traits, my natural hidden strengths and also became more open for the better.
Sandeep Deshmukh
Ph.D. Computer Science, IIT Bombay
Focus and concentration are the key elements of success in any research work. The mind needs to be active as well as calm and cool to get the desired research output. By regularly practicing the techniques taught in the YES!+ course, my research efficiency has increased manifold. This has improved my time management skills. Earlier, I was busy for nothing, now I am free for everything. By practicing Sudarshan Kriya daily, my awareness has increased. If I make a mistake, I realize it immediately and decide not to repeat it. My commitment level has increased and my basic concepts in life are getting polished day by day.
Pramod Patil
Ph.D. Maths, IIT Bombay.
I did my Yes!+ course in October 2006 and it was an amazing experience!! After doing this course I am able to handle my emotions better. I am very relaxed and simultaneously focused on whatever I am doing. Before the course I lacked leadership qualities, but now I am one of the core members of Art of Living team and lead many activities. The techniques taught in the course have helped to improve my academic performance as well.

By giving me tools to deal with my stress, YES!+ has helped me to actually confront my stresses at their root causes in hopes of overcoming them. The stress-management tools YES!+ offers have been extremely instrumental in freeing me from a once paralyzing fear of public speaking and low self-confidence. Apart from stress-relief, this program provides a space for much-needed self-reflection. This program helped me gain a greater sense of purpose at Stanford, by viewing my education from a broader perspective. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of participating in this program and the positive effects it has begun to bring about in me.

This course has been a wonderful experience for me. Before I began it, I was really suffering and was filled with regret about my past. I was unable to focus on my studies and thought I had lost my voice for good. But I felt really welcomed here and supported to get past all of that. I was even more upset during the first two days of the course but have really felt it dissipate over the days that remained. I never thought I would ever learn to meditate but I am a believer now.

At the beginning of the course I was not that interested. My lifestyle was kind of messy, and also slightly self destructive. Day by day, Yes!+ started getting more and more interesting. This, to me, was like a journey or a crossover. From being an absent minded, anxious, maker to a more relaxed person. It was not too easy, but pleasant.

The Yes+ Course made me very conscious of my thought patterns, and conscious of a sense of self that exists independent of those thoughts and different moods. It made me calmer, more reflective, more observant, and more stable-I enjoyed the course a great deal, and have found that a daily practice is something I'm relying on. (And this reading/finals period has been largely stress-free, mainly because meditating removes most of that stress!

The Youth Empowerment Seminar has helped me immensely. I have been dependent on drugs for a while. I never thought I had the stamina to live without them. Amazingly, I am more calm and happy now. I have discovered a new energy in myself.

The practices taught on YES!+, especially the Sudarshan Kriya, pulled together all the different threads of my life creativity, introspection, deep thought, and joy. I feel centered and powerful, knowing that I have the energy and drive to put my aspirations into action. I no longer worry about the small things, deadlines and papers, and I have been able to dance easily and gracefully through the responsibilities of my life at Harvard. Life has become effortless and the world has become beautiful. I credit YES!+ for all the successes and joys of my past two years, and the greatest blessing has been sharing this course with all my friends here and seeing their perspective on life flip in a matter of days.

At the beginning of the course I was not that interested. My lifestyle was kind of messy, and also slightly self destructive. I obsess a lot and this leaves me very stressed and anxious. Day by day, Yes!+ started getting more and more interesting. I got back the feeling that I can concentrate, I can do whatever I feel like doing without automatically thinking negatively in my head. This, to me, was like a journey or a crossover. From being an absent minded, anxious, maker to a more relaxed person. It was not too easy, but pleasant.

For me, this program is really an experience to see how the impossible becomes possible. In life I find it hard to maintain a positive mindset when people are doubting you. I used to be a person who became easily overwhelmed by positive or negative emotions instead of keeping a balance in situations. Having regularly started practicing my breathing techniques I really feel the difference in my daily life. I meet challenges feeling much more relaxed, with inner confidence.

The Art of Living YES!+ course has been one of the best experiences and most precious gifts of my life. The techniques I learned in the class continually allow me to be the best that I can be as a student, a leader, and a person. They have taught me to manage my stress and emotions, increase focus and concentration to perform better academically and take the most I can from Stanford, and have an overall sense of well-being, happiness, and clarity in all aspects of my life.
