Sri Sri visited Chennai on a two-day visit to participate in a mega public event, an educational conference, a knowledge session and a convention of The Art of Living’s volunteers from Tamil Nadu.

The highlight of the visit was 'Aanandham', a public event on September 29 where Sri Sriaddressed the audience, guided them through deep meditation and interacted with them.

Earlier, Sri Srispoke at theeducation conference, "Broaden Your Vision, Deepen Your Roots" which discussed the role of education and the demands made on it in the light of accelerating economic, environmental and social change.

Sri Sri was the keynote speaker at the 'Pearls of Wisdom - Overcoming the Tide', event which included interactive sessions with Mr. Ajay Bagga, MD & Head (Private Health Management) of Deutsche Bank and Mr. A. K. Sabat, renowned tax and budgeting expert.

Sri Sri lateraddressed the state level convention of the Tamil Nadu volunteers of the Art of Living at Vanagaram.

Sri Sri visits Machu Picchu, Sept. 15

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar visited the world heritage site of Machu Picchu in Peru on September 15. He conducted a meditation at the ancient South American site which is believed to have close ties with Indian civilization.

Honored with the Highest Civilian award of Paraguay, Sept. 13

The South American country further conferred the Doctorate HonorisCausa by the Universidad Autonoma de Asuncion of Paraguay on September 13, in recognition of the humanitarian work done by The Art of Living.

Addresses Ethics in Business conference, Argentina, Sept. 10

Sri Sri was welcomed by 2000 business leaders, CEOs, Directors and Presidents of the most renowned Corporations in Argentina for the ‘Ethics in Business’ Conference. He shared the Dias with Luis Moreno Ocampo, former Prosecutor of the International Court, in Le Hague.

At the slum of Retiro, Sept. 10

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar walked the streets of Buenos Aires ending in the slums of Retiro to talk to school teachers, ex-addicts, alcoholics and compulsive players, and children who had taken the Art of Living programs. He promised them a collaboration between The Art of Living and the schools in the slum. The work in the slums has been carried out by the foundation for the past 15 years, recovering many youths from the streets and crime. The endangered area of Bajo Flores will also have its first Art of Living center.

1.5 lakh meditators come together for peace, Sept. 9

On September 9, Sri Sri led an unprecedented gathering of 1.5 lakh Argentines in Buenos Aires, who came together to meditate for global peace. The event, titled 'El PlanetaMedita', had thousands who joined from 300 cities from across the world. Here, Sri Sri urged and inspired the youth to dedicate some time for service activities for a better Argentina.

 

University of Buenos Aires honors Sri Sri, Sept. 6

A thousand people gathered at the Aula Magna (auditorium) of the public UBA University to witness Sri Sri receiving yet another Diploma of Honor from the University. The Conference was attended by the University faculty along with professors, educators and students from all over 
the country.

Sri Sri said, “We need to include wisdom and human values in the programs; it is the way to fight against violence and depression”. He also underlined the importance of meditation as a way of enhancing consciousness.

Inauguration of spiritual conference, reviving human values, Sept. 6

Sri Sri also inaugurated a spiritual conference organized by a group of companies  with the support of the municipality of Buenos Aires. He said; “The voice of good people should be heard; corruption arises from a few bad people and the silence of good people. Where there is lack of spirituality and  belonging, corruption arises, and this begins to reverse when common people take responsibility.”

'You gave us  the desire to live again': prison inmate to Sri Sri, Sept. 6

Hundreds of prisoners in San Martín, Province of Buenos Aires, together with authorities from the Ministry of Justice and lawyers welcomed Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at a special event in their premised.

Over 5200 prisoners have already taken the Art of Living Program for rehabilitation. Inmates, in the Art of Living pavilion said: “Thank you for what you do for us in here. We feel free. You gave us  the desire to live again”.

Felicitated with a doctorate, Argentina, Sept. 5

The Siglo XXI University honored Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with a honorary doctorate in recognition of the work done by The Art of Living in the University Campus. The felicitation ceremony was held in the University's campus in Cordoba, over 800 kilometers from Buenos Aires.

Over 18,000 people attended the felicitation ceremony, despite the rain.

During the event, Sri Sri stated that he had hope in the youth and also added “I hope to take to the East the good from the West, take the good from the East to the West and make a better world together.”

Sri Sri also led the audience through a guided meditation, remarking:  “We are making history, this is the first time that we are meditating under the heavy rain."

In addition, the Consul General of India, Dr Sergio Lais Suarez, on behalf of the Indian Community, handed Sri Sri the recognition of ‘Custodian of World Peace’ for all future generations.

Prior to the event, Jose Manuel de la Sota, the Governor of the province of Cordoba, felicitated Sri Sri with the award of  ‘Honorary Citizen 
of Cordoba’.

Reception of joy, Argentina, Sept. 4

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar landed in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on September 4. He was received by a host of journalists, photographers and reporters from the national and the international press. They  had waited in the cold winter weather for over two hours, along with 2000 residents at the Aeroparque Airport. As Sri Sri alighted, he remarked, “I am very honored  to be in this country, with so many happy and vibrant people. We are here to generate waves of peace and harmony in the society.” A magnificent choir comprising 300 singers welcomed Sri Sri with their recitation of the ‘Ode to Joy’.

Rio de Janeiro State bestows the highest honor to Sri Sri, Sept. 3

Sri Sri received the Tiradentes Medal in Rio, the highest honor from Rio de Janeiro State on September 3. This medal is the most important commendation of the legislature of Rio de Janeiro, designed to reward personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the public cause.

The Governor of São Paulo state, Mr. Geraldo Alckmin received Sri Sri Ravi Shankar at the Bandeirantes Palace on August 30. The State Secretary of Education, Voorwald Herman, also attended the meeting.


The Governor stressed the importance of maintaining emotional balance in children and adolescents. "Often problems are caused for young people due to stress and excessive family conflicts," said the Governor.  "Why, it was a great honor to receive Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and the board of Art of Living association, they have a great expertise in education," he shared. 

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar discussed with Geraldo Alckmin the ways to a stress-free and violence-free state. They discussed alternatives for peace and the importance of human values.
