Heavy monsoon rains in late July 2010 swept through the country, washing away homes, roads, bridges, crops and livestock - a massive destruction from northern Pakistan to the southern province of Sindh. More than 20 million people, estimated to be nearly 12 percent of the entire population, suffered. According to the United Nations, 10 million people were in urgent need of food and shelter.

The Art of Living Pakistan felt the need to stand up and help people in the hour of devastation. There was a desperate need for temporary shelter, clean drinking water and toilets to avert a public health catastrophe. People also needed medical care and basic food items.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the worst hit province in the catastrophe and therefore was chosen as the focal point of relief work. This took place in various districts including Abazai in Nowshera, Charsadda and Jalozai in Peshawar district. The relief items including tents, clothes, food items, drinking water bottles and blankets were distributed among people.
