Inauguration
Q. What day is the International Center inauguration and what are the timings?

A. International Center Inauguration is on 30th June. The schedule will be announced shortly.



Q. Do I need to buy a ticket to attend the inauguration? Where can I buy one?

A. There is no fee for inauguration for the course participants. For guests, we request you to RSVP. You can find RSVP details here



Q. I am registered for one of the courses during the Guru Purnima. Do I still need to buy a ticket for International Center for Meditation & Well Being inauguration?

A. If you are registered for any of the courses, you do not need to register for the inauguration separately.
Registration
Q. How do I register online?

Q. Where do I complete registration for my course when I get to the Center?

A. The Registration desk will be located at Watauga High School located at 300 Go Pioneers Drive Boone, NC 28607. If you are driving, this is the same location where you will park your car and board the shuttle to the Center. If you are arriving in the shuttle from the airport, and staying at the Center, the bus will bring you to the High school for registration.



Q. What are the timings of the registration desk?

A. For your convenience, the registration desk will be open from Noon until 7pm on June 28th and 29th. Please plan on arriving as early as possible to complete your registration and beat the lines. For those arriving later than 7pm, please note that the registration desk may be open for a limited time after 7pm and/or in the morning before the course starts. All timings are subject to change.



Q. Do I need to bring anything with me to complete my registration?

A. Please bring a photo ID with you, as it is required to complete your registration. A separate ID will be required for each member of the family to complete registration. Students, who have registered with student fee, need to present their student ID for verification. It is also advisable to bring the e-mail confirmation you received when you registered on-line. Parents/Guardians will be registering their children; hence ID for children is not required for registration.



Q. My family member or friend registered me for the course will they need to be there with me when I check in?

A. All participants must be registered on-line under their own name. If somebody else has completed the on-line registration for you in his or her name, please contact us at gp2012.registration@us.artofliving.org immediately, so this can be corrected and your registration process is not delayed.



Q. I registered my spouse/family member/friend under my name?

A. It is required that all course participants have registered on-line under their own name. If you registered a friend or family member on-line under your name, please contact us at gp2012.registration@us.artofliving.org immediately.



Q. Can I complete the registration process for my friend/family member, etc?

A. Each adult course participant will need to sign their own registration form when they arrive at the registration desk. A parent or guardian will need to complete the registration process for their children enrolled in a youth course, including signing their registration forms and other relevant forms.



Q. I plan to register on-site and pay when I arrive there, will this be permitted?

A. Yes. However, we will be able to accept on-site registrations only for courses that still have open spots. It is highly advisable for you to register on-line as soon as possible as courses are filling up quickly.



Q. How can I pay if I register for a course on the spot?

A. We will only be able to accept payments via cash or credit card. No personal checks will be accepted.



Q. I’ve changed my mind and would like to change my registration to a different course. How can I do this?

A. If you need any changes made to your registration, please contact us at gp2012.registration@us.artofliving.org at your earliest so we can advise you specific to your situation and ensure the smoothest process for you.



Q. How late will I be able to get the shuttle from the parking lot to the ashram?

A. Participants that are traveling/arriving late at night on the 28th or 29th will need to arrive at the Watauga High School parking lot in Boone parking lot by 9:45 PM in order to get the last shuttle to the ashram. If participants arrive later than that and miss the last shuttle they should make arrangements for housing outside of the ashram for the night.



Q. I paid for housing at the Center. When will I get my room assignment?

A. If you have paid for housing at the Center, your room assignment will also be provided at the time of registration. The check in time is June 28th at 12pm for housing at the center.



Q. I am doing Blessings course/Guru Puja 2, and I have paid for housing at the center. When does my accommodation start?

A. If you have paid for housing at the Center and are doing Blessings Course/Guru Puja 2, your accommodation starts on 28th June. The check in time is June 28th at 12pm. Please contact us at gp2012.registration@us.artofliving.org if you have procured housing at the center and will be arriving later than 28th June.

 
Courses


Q. When do the courses start and end?

A. Most courses begin on June 28th evening and end with the Grand Guru Purnima Celebrations on July 3rd evening. For further details, please check our course link



Q. Are there any TTCs that are being offered this Guru Purnima?

A. There will be no TTCs offered during Guru Purnima this year.



Q. What is the cancellation policy for courses?

A. For written cancellation requests received upto 10 days before the course starts: Full refund minus $100 processing fee. For written cancellation requests received 10 days or less before the course starts: Course expenses not refundable except in case of emergency. VVM Course fee refundable minus $100 processing fee.

No shows for course: No refunds except in case of emergency.




Q. Are families registering for courses eligible for a family discount?

A. Currently we do not offer a family discount.



Q. Are families eligible for early registration discount as well as the family discount?

A. The early bird discount can be availed by anyone during the time period it is offered.



Q. What is the family discount rate?

A. Currently we do not offer a family discount rate.



Q. When will I get a confirmation for the course I have registered online?

A. A confirmation will be sent within 48 hours stating that we have received your application.



Q. Who should I contact, in case I need something during the course?

A. Please contact Hospitality desk. Location of the hospitality desk will be in the welcome package.



Q. Where can I find day to day information on course sessions?

A. Information about the courses or any other special announcements will be available on write up boards located outside the course halls. Hospitality desk will also have this information.

Please ensure you check with them periodically as announcements within the courses will be kept to a minimum to ensure the sanctity of the courses.




Q. Are there breaks for restrooms during the course?

A. Yes. People can use the restrooms individually if they really need to use the restroom outside the regular breaks



Q. Can pregnant Women attend the course?

A. Yes, pregnant women can attend the course. Please inform the course coordinators prior so they can provide you with any special instructions for the course, if necessary.



Q. What should I do if I have some special health issues or concerns?

A. Please make sure this is listed in the registration form. Also we suggest you inform the course coordinator (Course Coordinator or Teacher) so they can provide you with any special instructions for the course, if necessary.



Q. Will child care be provided?

A. No Childcare will be provided. Each parent is responsible for their child/ren.


Art of Silence

Q. If both parents are on the Silence course and the kids are in the kids program, can someone take care of the kids in the mornings?

A. If both parents are enrolled for the Silence course, we recommend that one of the parent do their morning sadhana in their room so they can be with the kids until the Youth programs begin, usually around 9 or 9:30am. The parents are responsible for taking care of their kids during all times the kids are not on any course. No child care is provided during the duration of the courses.



Q. Should I bring anything to the Art of Silence course?

A. The welcome e-mail will have the recommended list of things to bring to the course. All the registered course participants will receive the welcome e-mail few days prior to the event.


Guru Puja Courses - Guru Puja I, Guru Puja II

Q. What are the prerequisites to do the Guru Puja Phase I course?

A. Pre-requisites are:

  • 4 Art Of Silence courses (or)
  • 3 Art Of Silence courses and 1 DSN (or)
  • 3 Art Of Silence courses and TTC phase 1

Q. What is the schedule for Guru Puja Phase I?

Q. Should I bring anything to the Guru Puja I course?

A. The welcome e-mail will have the recommended list of things to bring to the course. All the registered course participants will receive the welcome e-mail few days prior to the event.



Q. Do I need Guru Puja kit for Guru Puja I course?

A. You will need the Guru Puja Kit only for Guru Puja II course.



Q. I know the Guru Puja and can chant it. Should I still take Guru Puja Phase I course ?

A. It is strongly recommended that you first complete Guru Puja Phase I. Chanting with accurate pronunciation and intonation are very important. There are several other important areas covered in the Guru Puja Phase I course.



Q. Can I do Guru Puja I with Art of Silence?

A. No, these are two very different courses with different schedules.



Q. What are the prerequisites to do the Guru Puja Phase II course ?

A. You have completed Guru Puja Phase I course taught in Art of Living by Bhanu Didi. You have practiced Guru Puja chanting regularly for at least 6 months and have it memorized.

Q. What should I bring to the Guru Puja II course?

A. It is important that you bring your Guru Puja Manual and Guru Puja Kit (not included in course fee) with you. The welcome mail will have the recommended list of things to bring to the course.



Q. Should I bring fruits, flowers etc. for the Guru Puja II course?

A. Puja items like flower, fruit, camphor, incense sticks, etc. will be provided for you at the course. These items are included in the course fee.



Q. Is a Puja set included part of course fees?

A. No, the Puja set is not included part of Puja Phase I course Fees. There are some other materials included to help you learn the Puja, i.e. Guru Puja books and CDs.



Q. I don't have the Puja set. Can I buy at the venue?

A. A limited number of Puja sets will be available at the venue. You can purchase this using check, cash or credit card.



Q. I don't have the Guru Puja manual. Can I get one?

A. You should already have the Guru Puja manual from your Phase I course. A very limited number of extra copies may be available from Guru Puja Phase I course. Please check with the course coordinator.


Art of Meditation

Q. What is the Art of Meditation Course – how is it different from the Art of Silence?

A. The Art of Meditation Course offers a mantra meditation technique called the Sahaj Samadhi Meditation. Sahaj Samadhi, meaning effortless transcendence, is a natural and graceful system of effortless meditation providing the mind with very deep rest. This course provides you a personal meditation technique. The Art of Silence course has guided meditations that provide deep cleansing and are recommended to be done only in the course. The Art of Silence course can be taken once every few months.



Q. Who is eligible to take the Art of Meditation course at Guru Poornima?

A. Art of Meditation Course is open to everyone (ages 18 and above) that would like to learn meditation and get a personal meditation technique.

Note: Those who are taking the Art of Silence course for the first time this Guru Poornima are not eligible to take the Art of Meditation course.




Q. How can I register for the Art of Meditation Course?

A. If you have registered online for the Art of Meditation course, you can get your badge at the registration desk in the parking lot from June 28 – 30. If you would like to register for the Art of Meditation course you can do so at the registration desk in the designated parking lot from June 28 – 30 OR at lunch time in the dining hall on June 30th.



Q. Does the Art of Meditation course fee include meals and accommodation at the ashram for the duration of the course?

A. The Art of Mediation course fee does not include meals or accommodation. For more information on registering for meals please visit http://www.artofliving.org/intl-meditation-center-usa/gp2012-visitors Accommodation is not available in the ashram if you are only taking the Art of Meditation course. Please refer to the recommended list of hotels on our website for details on offsite accommodation


Blessings Course

Q. Should I bring anything to the Blessings course?

A. Recommended list of things to bring will be sent prior to the start of the course.


Youth Courses-Art Angels, Art Excel, YES

Q. Where will Art Angels and Art Excel be held?

A. Art Angels and Art Excel courses will be held off-site.

Q. How will the Art Angels and Art Excel course participants commute from course venue to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being?

A. We will arrange for a shuttle to pick up the Art Angels and Art Excel course participants from the course venue and drop them at the International Center for Meditation & Well Being once a day before the satsang. Parents are expected to receive the children at the designated place at the designated time.



Q. What is the age limit for Art Angels, Art EXCEL and YES courses?

A. Art Angels: 4-7 years. The participant should turn 4 years by June 28th, 2012 in order to be able to register for Art Angels course.

ART EXCEL: 8-13 years. The participant should turn 8 years by June 28th, 2012 in order to be able to register for ART EXCEL course.

YES: 14-17 years. The participant should turn 14 years by June 28th, 2012 in order to be able to register for YES course.




Q. Is breakfast provided for Youth course participants?

A. We will provide breakfast for youth course participants. However, we encourage those staying with children at the Fairfield and Comfort Inn to have breakfast before coming for the course.


Accommodation
Q. How do i book a room to stay within the International Center for Meditation & Well Being premises?

A. Accommodation in the International Center for Meditation & Well Being is limited . It is first come first serve basis offered to Art of Silence, Guru Puja 1, Guru Puja 2, SSY2, Blessings course participants. Check-in is on June 28th and Check out on July 4th. All other course participants and Families should reserve their accommodations at one of our recommended hotels. Please check the list of recommended hotels here.



Q. Can people choose roommates?

A. If you are staying outside the International Center for Meditation & Well Being, please visit our Forums page. The forums will help facilitate room sharing.



Q. Can I get some details for Accommodation within the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being premises?

A. For those staying within the International Center for Meditation & Well Being:
  • Only individuals on silence course, Guru Puja 1, Guru Puja 2, Blessings and SSY2 will be housed.
  • International Center: Check in June 28: 1pm, check out July 4: 8am

    All the people have to be registered in the course before the request is made.
  • Men will be housed with men and women with women.
  • Families with kids will need to reserve their accommodation outside the International Center for Meditation & Well Being.

Q. Are there lockers available at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being?

A. No lockers will be provided at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being. We request you not to bring valuables. For every item you bring, please label with your name and course you will be attending. This will help spot items, in case they are misplaced.



Q. What is the hotel check in and check out time?

A. Please check with the specific hotel you have booked with.



Q. I will be attending only the Guru Purnima celebrations. Would it be possible to arrange my accommodation?

A. For those attending only Guru Purnima celebrations, We request you make your own accommodation arrangements.



Q. Does the course fee include housing?

A. The course fee includes course related expenses and food for the course duration. It does not include Accommodation.



At The International Center for Meditation & Well Being

Q. I want to change my room. What should I do?

A. For those staying in the International Center for Meditation & Well Being, pls speak to the Hospitality team. You can also hand in your request if you are in silence.



Q. I would like to stay with my friend/family member at the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being. How can I put in a request?

A. Please note that men and women will be housed separately in the International Center premises. Please send your request to stay with a friend or family member to gp2012.accommodation@us.artofliving.org . Please include your details and your friend’s/family member’s details such as Full Name, Course etc. in your request. The team will do its best to accommodate your request.

Q. Where can I park in the International Center for Meditation & Well Being Premises?

However, there are parking lots close to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being where you will be allowed to park. Q. How can we come to the parking lot?

A. For individuals and families staying outside the International Center premises, we request you to car-pool to the parking lot. There will be no shuttle provision from the hotels to the parking lot.



Q. Is there a fee for Parking ?

A. Parking at designated parking lots is free of cost to the course participants.



Q. Do you provide transportation?

Shuttles will be available from the Charlotte airport (CLT) to and from the International Center for Meditation & Well Being and to the recommended hotels only. If you are arriving at an airport other than CLT, please make your own arrangements to drive to the designated parkinglots close to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being. Free shuttle service will be provided from the parking lots to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being and back. There is no shuttle service from the hotels to the parking lot. If your accommodation is outside the International Center for Meditation & Well Being, own arrangements to drive from the hotel to the parking lot close to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being have to be made. On a daily basis, free shuttle service will be provided from the parking lot to the International Center for Meditation & Well Being and back.




Q. Is there a public transportation provision from Charlotte airport (CLT) to Boone, in case my arrival time does not quite match with the shuttle timings?

A. Yes. There are shuttle services such as Hickory Hop from Charlotte airport (CLT) to Boone.

Food
Q. Do I need to buy food? Is it covered in the course fees.

A. June 28th: Dinner, June 29 - July 3: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner are included for all course participants from AOS, Guru Puja I and II, Blessings, SSY2 and all Youth course participants.



Q. Will the food be Vegetarian?

A. All food provided will be wholesome and completely vegetarian.



Q. Will there be enough protein?

A. Generally speaking, course food is light during the day, especially at lunch. Especially, since what you eat has a direct impact on meditations. There is always protein included in the meals, mostly at dinner, but it may be less than you are used to. If this is the case, we suggest you bring some Almonds, Walnuts, Trail mix, small boxes of Soy milk or whatever you need to supplement your diet. Please remember that there is no refrigerator storage space available for participants at the International Center for Meditation & Well Being. Please check with your hotels if they can provide you with refrigerator space, in case you need it.



Q. I have food allergies, whom should I contact?

A. Please send us an email before June 20th to gp2012.info@us.artofliving.org



Q. Will there be water fountains around the course halls?

A. Yes. There will be water dispensers around the course-halls.



Q. I have some special foods/snacks I want to bring for myself and/or my family. Is there a place to store the items?

A. You can bring non perishable healthy food items which do not need refrigeration. E.g. Fruits, fresh nuts, granola, wheat or multi grain crackers, cereal / protein bars
Hospitality


Q. What do I do if I forget to bring something? Can I run to the store during the course to pick up needed items?

A. Please check if the item is available at our Boutique. If not, you can write down the needed items and give your request to the hospitality desk. There will be envelopes and index cards at the desk available for this purpose. Include the amount of money needed to purchase the item and the hospitality team will purchase the item within 24 hours of your request and hold the item for you at the desk.



Q. What if a family member really needs to reach me while I'm in silence?

A. Ideally, during the course, it is best to turn off your cell phone. Let your family and friends know that you will be in silence and unavailable for a few days. If there is an emergency or urgent message that needs to get to you, pls have them call the center and member of the hospitality team will notify you.



Q. What if I lose something during the course?

A. Its best not to bring valuable items to the course. Whenever possible, write your name and contact information on commonly used items so that they are not mistaken for others and they are easily returned to you. Most importantly, be mindful and double check that you have all your items with you before leaving. Double check all areas to make sure that nothing has been left behind. There will also be a lost and found at the hospitality desk.



Q. Do I need to label my belongings?

A. We recommend that you label your belongings with your name and course that you will be attending. This will help spot your items easily, in-case they are misplaced.



Q. My birthday/anniversary is happening while I'm on the course. What should I do?

A. Notify hospitality ahead of time if you have a birthday or anniversary that takes place during the course!



Q. If I hurt myself or get sick, what should I do?

A. Notify the hospitality desk immediately.



Q. What if I have a question about the course, but do not get a chance to ask my course teacher?

A. Write a note and put it in the question basket. If you would like to talk to a teacher or volunteer right away, talk to someone at the hospitality desk. We may be able to answer your question, or find someone who can.



Q. Who should I talk to if I have a comment or complaint?

A. Talk to someone at the hospitality team right away.



Q. What if I decide that the course is not for me and I'd like to go home?

A. Please talk to the teacher or the course coordinator. We may be able to find ways to create a better/more comfortable experience for you.



Q. I have a special song that I would like to sing during the evening session. What should I do?

A. See hospitality desk.



Q. What if I miss an important announcement or the course schedule changes. How will I know what's going on?

A. Important announcements and changes will be posted at the hospitality desk. You can check for daily updates and get information without breaking silence.



Q. I want to meet with Guruji. What should I do?

Seva
Q. I would like to be part of the seva team during Guru Purnima. How can I register for seva?

A. We have received an over-whelming response for volunteering during Guru Purnima. If any positions open up, we will post the information on the following website.
Visitors
Q. I am not part of any course. Can I come to the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being as a visitor?

A. Yes, you can come as a visitor. Visitor fees along with all other details can be found here. You can pay the visitor fees at the Hospitality desk and pick-up your wrist band.



Q. I am coming in as a visitor along with my children. Can I attend the Satsang?

A. For visitors and families with children, please note that there will be a sectioned area by the exit doors of the Satsang Hall. We request visitors and families with children to be seated in this section. Once bhajan singing during the Satsang is completed, all visitors and families with children will be ushered to the overflow room. Overflow room will be equipped with LIVE webcast of the Satsang.



Q. Is there child-care provided during Satsang?

A. It is mandatory that each and every child be accompanied by a parent. There is no provision for child-care.

 
In & Around the International Center for Meditation & Well Being


Q. How far is the walk from course hall to the dining room?

A. Most of the course halls are 5-10 min walk from the dining hall. Please remember to carry a flash-light in the evenings.



Q. Where is the 'Lost & Found' desk?

A. By the Hospitality Desk.



Q. Are there elevators in the buildings where participants will be staying?

A. There are no elevators in the building where participants will be staying within the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being.



Q. Is the International Center for Meditation and Well-Being handicap accessible?

A. International Center will be made handicap accessible as much as possible. However, there are a few areas where the center has some stairs. Dining area is separate from the course halls. There will be internal shuttle services provided for the elderly and those needing it.



Q. Items that you will need at the venue:

A. Along with the recommended list of things to bring for your course it is recommended that you carry the following items:
  • Blanket
  • Cushion/pillow/backjack
  • Loose comfortable clothing for the course. Prepare to layer and plan for Air Conditioning.

  • Light sweater / shawls for early mornings and late evenings
  • Sandals or slippers for easy removal before entering hall / Comfortable walking shoes
  • Any personal items you may need for being away from home (toiletries etc)

Q. Anything else - other considerations:

A. Yes, please plan to carry the following items as necessary:

  • Earplugs if you are a light sleeper and sharing a room with people you do not know

A. No, you do not have to buy a ticket. But, please remember to RSVP on the website. Only dinner will be provided to all the visitors on Guru Purnima Day at no charge.
