Over 20,000 people from 61 countries took part in a mass prayer for world peace led by H.H.Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on October 7, 2008. The event was part of the annual Navratri celebrations at the Art of Living International Center in Bangalore, India.

The collective intention (sankalpa) of the homas and yagnas (Vedic rituals), group meditations, and prayers held during the Indian festival was to strengthen the resolve to root out terrorism, bring peace, and increase the inner strength of people.

Explaining the significance of the prayers, H.H.Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, "The homas, and yagnas are very significant as they create the unseen power which elevates and strengthens the consciousness.” Cutting across all religions and traditions, the prayers were attended by people from Russia, Taiwan, Mongolia, Germany, Africa, and the United States of America.

The prayers marked yet another of H.H.Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s endeavor to establish peace in the world. Through meditation, and stress elimination workshops, HH Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has been promoting spiritual values to resolve conflicts around the world.

H.H.Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has also used these values to bring opposing groups, and ideologies together for dialog, and negotiation.
