Sri Lanka's first Yoga Festival by The Art of Living

The second half of 2012 is to see the spectacular launch of Sri Lanka's first ever international Yoga Festival organized by the Art of Living Foundation in Sri Lanka. Scheduled to be held from July to December 2012, the theme of the Yoga Festival “Yoga everyday keeps the doctor away!” is creatively designed with the nourishing red apple as the brand ambassador for the event. This initiative is organized in aid of the children's homes supported by the Foundation.

While people would primarily learn and take home the life-supporting benefits of yoga, some of the creative highlights of the Yoga Festival include fun-filled tributes to the `Apple`- the brand ambassador of the festival. Tributes to the apple would include charity fund-raiser events designed exclusively for the festival - the Apple Dance titled `Jus be Appy`, the Apple - pie Party, the Apple Art Exhibition titled `the Red Dress Show, Appy music, Juice-up the apple games, the Great Apple Walk, and many more top-of-the chart events.

The idea to showcase this festival is inspired by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's vision for a stress-free and violence -free society. Yoga programs in the Festival include Sri Sri Natya – Yoga with dance, Yoga and Meditation, Food for Yogis, Laughter Yoga (Hasya Yoga), Subtle Yoga (Sukshma Yoga), Yoga and Ayurveda, Yoga and breath, Yoga for women, Yoga and creativity and exclusive yoga modules for various health imbalances and conditions. The Festival will also be an occasion to launch the program `Share an apple. Take home great health` - a unique event to support the food needs of under priviledged children in the island nation.

The other key events in the festival include educational exhibitions, town-hall workshops, awareness camps, lec-dems (lecture cum demonstration), presentations of yoga case studies, fact - sheets, research findings. Campaigns on healthy food, lifestyle and habits, women and children's health, spiritual wisdom, environment and ayurveda are also to be showcased.

Several people from across the island are expected to benefit from the festival including families below the poverty-line, rural youth, internally displaced people, refugees and prison inmates, students, corporate executives, sports persons and persons with health conditions like diabetes, asthma, migraine, obesity, chronic conditions and other health imbalances.

Health organizations and consumer brands are also expected to come together to endorse the status of yoga as a life-supporting science. Impetus to research and development initiatives on yoga and breathing techniques will also find high emphasis in the calendar of events.

Consumer-friendly holiday packages to Sri Lanka have also been scheduled during the Yoga Festival season in association with Sumeru Travel Solutions network across India.
