Bangalore: Brahm Naad - a grand symphony of 1094 sitarists, hosted by the Art of Living foundation finds an entry into the Guinness Book of World records. Inspired and conceptualised by humanitarian and spiritual leader and Art of Living Founder, His Holiness Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, this concert was held on November 21 in Noida, New Delhi.
The citation issued by Guinness Book of Records states, “The largest sitar ensemble consisted of 1094 participants at an event organized by the Art of Living Foundation (India) in Noida, Delhi, India on 21 November, 2008.
The proceeds of the event went towards helping victims of the recent Bihar floods. Gurudev’s vision behind the two-day program was to popularise Indian classical music and reinforce the power of classical music in spreading peace and harmony.
As sitarists from different religions, castes and sections of society from India, USA, Australia and various parts of the world plucked their strings in unison,
Gurudev said: “Music connects the individual to the universal spirit. Music is that rhythm & harmony that flows from the universal to the individual; from the cosmos to the finite.”
