Questions on Sahaj Samadhi Meditation

Q. What makes this form of meditation unique – Sahaj Samadhi Meditation?

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: It is simple meditation, yet very profound. Usually something very profound sounds so tough, and something so simple is not so effective. Isn't this the general notion that something easy and simple is not that effective and it doesn't bring you many benefits? And something which brings you benefits, you have to toil a lot, put so much effort into it, this is the general belief. But Sahaj Samadhi Meditation is a rare combination of simplicity with depth and benefits.

Q. Please discuss the value of Vedic traditions of Masters who have preserved the purity of this meditation for thousands of years.

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, this meditation has been passed on to generations from thousands of years. Usually people would pass on this technique to someone who qualifies as capable and obedient so that they will make the best use of it. So they would test the student several times before they took them on as a disciple. I took a completely different stance (laughs)! I said, however one is wired, just teach them, and whatever progress they have to make they will do so.
If they qualify – well and good! So I just opened the flood gates and said okay, everybody, let’s give this knowledge to everyone! We’ll make them capable. In the past, it used to be very tough. You had to please the Master before you could get anything from them. Now it’s the other way around (laughs)!
