Goat represents the unconsciousness. Patanjali in order to get the bath i.e. (let's assume we are all attached to body & in order to only clean the body we only pay attention to it & not what is going on at thought level ) went even though he wasn't having the entire knowledge. If we give even a very small opportunity to our unconsciousness to raise it'll take over the knowledge & so the consciousness.
