What is Ayurveda ?

In ancient India, Ayurveda was practiced as a holistic approach for thousands of years and was considered one of the best ways to treat diseases and lead a healthy lifestyle. Owing to the significance of good health, we started applying Ayurvedic principles and concepts in our modern world. Ayurveda blends our lifestyle and health-oriented habits with the ancient scientific wisdom of using natural substances, medicines and herbs to help us lead a healthy, contented, stress-free and disease-free life. Ayurveda got officially recognized by WHO (World Health Organization) in 1976 as “traditional medicine”. Ayurveda encompasses several preventive (prophylactic) and healing (curative) methods. The knowledge of the healthcare system and medicine stems from Rig Veda and Ayurveda is a sub-branch stemmed out of it. The Sanskrit word Ayurveda is derived from the roots: Ayur meaning life, and Veda meaning knowledge. When the logical flow of knowledge is arranged systematically, it becomes science. Initially, this knowledge was passed on orally from person to person. The oldest texts on Ayurveda are the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and the Ashtanga Hrudaya. For centuries our sages and saints have researched herbal medicine to bestow health to people. Ayurveda endeavors not just to cure some diseases or symptoms of the disease in the human body but is designed to bring well-being and shower happiness in human life. Ayurveda has stood its ground over centuries, tested worldwide and proved its efficacy in healing the body, soul and mind. To know more about Ayurveda, read through the articles on this page.
