Do you want to support women in the rural part of Uganda in achieving their goal for a better life? The life of our women in the Mubende region is characterized by typical poverty features: Low-income, low predictability, discrimination, lack of control over their own lives and lack of basic needs such as clean water, education and health care.
The support they have received from the Art of Living and IAHV Norway since spring 2013 has helped develop a handicraft production, start up an agricultural project for the cultivation of beans and arrange workshops in sustainable agriculture, loans and savings, and leadership development. The women have now registered as an organization with the local authorities, they've rented an office with storage space, and they have attracted attention in the area because they work hard and get results. But there is a lot to tackle, and we need more support to implement key initiatives and start several income generating projects.
How you can help:
1. Monthly donations: For example, NOK 200, - per month. Contact Lene Martinsen, lene.martinsen@artofliving.no (Gifts over NOK 500, - per calendar provides a tax deduction).
2. One-time donations. Payable to the account number 1602 56 68 530. Please, note the contribution "Uganda". These donations will be used where it is most needed at any given time.
3. Donating through campaigns. We will run campaigns on a regular basis asking for support to very specific parts of the project. Right now we have a campaign to equip the office and starge space with PC, power, internet, phone, furniture, safe for important documents, insurance etc. The budget for the campaign office can be found on our website (www.empowered-voices.org). 4. Volunteering. We need all the help we can get. You can engage in web development, fundraising, project planning and implementation (read about the various projects on the website), grant writing, crafts design and product development, accounting, or travel to Uganda with us next time we go!
