The Indian Team

Nishi

NIshi (Randive) is a nine year old girl, and like any other girl her age, she is full of beans and ready for exciting adventures. Precisely, why she has decided to join her "old" (just kidding!) grandparents on an epic road trip of over 21,000 kms, across 19 countries and through 100+ cities, over a period of about 72 days through 8 time zones.

During her free time, she loves singing and probably "never stops singing" (according to her mother). She has a passion for music and currently plays four musical instruments - piano, violin, flute  and the recorder. No doubt that she will definitely keep her fellow travellers entertained! She enjoys reading and her favourite authors are Chris Colfer, Enid Blyton, Jeff Kinney and Racheal Renee Russell. She also loves ice skating and is working towards the gold grade.

Nishi will be 9 when she starts off on this journey, thus making her the youngest female to take on this feat. Follow her journey titled "Peace is Possible" on Facebook!

Pushpa

Pushpa (Baldawa) was born in the small town of Banhatti, Karnataka in 1954. Over the years, she has played multiple roles, many of them simultaneously - as a supportive wife, caring mother, loving grandmother, dependable business partner, a tech-savvy "baby boomer" or just a passionate artist!

She played a key role in the success of the family business, taking on the entire finance, accounting and administrative matters of the business. However, after retirement she completely changed her focus to become the social media support function for her daughter’s movie review blog and also trained herself (as a trainer, sometimes) in artistic activities like quilling!

Pushpa is an avid traveller and has visited over 45 countries and 6(!) continents in her lifetime.  Amongst the most adventurous  journeys, was her trip (the first Indian to do so) to 90deg-N, North Pole, her trip to see the midnight sun in Norway and also her stepping foot on the continent of Antarctica. Driving around Iceland, Trekking around Mt Kailash, Hem Kund, Char Dham and several other Himalayan mountains is a shoulder shrug for her!

Pushpa is very fond of driving, which is the underlying inspiration to her taking on (with her husband Badri and grand-daughter NIshi) an expedition of driving from Mumbai to London in March 2017 covering over 21,000 kms, across 19 countries and through 100+ cities, over a period of about 72 days through 8 time zones. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime journey through off-beaten tracks, rugged mountains, deserts and sand dunes, dense forests and snow, high altitudes, heritage sites, highways and cities.

Pushpa will be 63 when she starts off on this journey, thus making her the oldest female and along with Badri, the oldest couple,  to take on this feat. Follow her journey titled "Peace is Possible" on Facebook!

Badri

Badri (Baldawa) hails from a simple rajasthani family and was born in 1945 in Bellary, Karnataka. Badri’s life has been a journey of challenges, struggles, passion, hard-work and adventure.  His discipline and dedication brought him success in whatever he dreamt and envisioned.

Badri’s journey from a humble beginning to a successful businessman is inspiring, to say the least.  Badri, being the eldest male of 12 siblings, was fully responsible of the family after the sudden demise of his father, at a young age. He worked for almost two decades as an employee, before starting his own business under the name Seeba, in 1986.  Seeba soon became a household name in the kitchenware segment and was awarded recognition as an “Export House” by the Government of India.  Badri went on to lead the All India Stainless Steel Industry Association (AISSIA), the national body for stainless steel manufacturers and traders, as it's president from 2006-09.  Badri is also associated with many religious and humanitarian activities including as a trustee of the Trust formed by Jagadguru Sri Sridharacharyaji of Ayodhya.

Academically, he is a Commerce graduate, a Chartered Accountant (gold medalist), a Cost Accountant and a Company Secretary — none of which are generally typical of a avid "adventourist" that he is!!  Once his responsibilities as a son, brother, father and entrepreneur were complete,  he began pursuing his "most exciting" dream. His mantra in life applied here too … "Dream the best one could imagine, Explore the best within yourself and Discover to achieve the dream".

He has taken many adventurous expeditions, some of them repeatedly, such as Mt. Everest base camp 2, 90deg-N North Pole, Antarctica, Solo driving in Iceland, Midnight-Sun in Norway, Kailash-Mansarovar and many more.  As of date, he has travelled to over 55 countries and many hundred cities!

His passion for driving has also inspired him (at age 72) to undertake a record making self-driving attempt from Mumbai to London in March 2017 (with his wife Pushpa and grand-daughter NIshi) covering over 21,000 kms, across 19 countries and through 100+ cities, over a period of about 72 days through 8 time zones.

When they start off on this journey, Badri will be the oldest male and along with Pushpa, the oldest couple,  to take on this feat. Follow his journey titled "Peace is Possible" on Facebook!  Badri also writes a blog sharing his wisdom, life learnings and adventures at www.smritiweb.com/badri
