Governor Holds Meeting With Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Kohima, May 11 (MExN): PB Acharya, Governor of Nagaland & Assam visited the Art of Living Centre to meet the founder of the Art of Living, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on May 4. The meeting focused on service projects for betterment in the health and education sector in Nagaland, particularly in the Indo-Myanmar border covering Mon, Tuensang and Kiphire districts of Nagaland.

Governor was accompanied by a team of senior doctors with extensive experience in organizing medical camps in Nagaland and Geoffrey Yaden, Chief Editor of Nagaland Post. The doctors attended the meeting were Dr. Hanumanthrao Palep, Palep, Dr. K.C. Mohanty, Dr. P.S. Shankar, Dr. Agam Vora, Dr. Suparna Nirgudkar, Dr. Umesh Borwankar and Dr. Manjari Ranade.

Governor explained that the need of the hour is to promote more people to people contact between the mainland and the North Eastern frontier areas. Thousands of Nagas are living in Indo-Myanmar border and Myanmar Nagas across the border are lacking in the fields of education and health. Governor was of the opinion that if the Art of Living Trust takes initiative, there is a scope for Public Private Partnership (PPP) hospital, school, nursing college, medical college, orphanage and health centre at the border area. This would greatly facilitate and strengthen the bonds of fellowship and strengthen emotional integration between our Nagaland Nagas as well as Nagas from Myanmar.

The Art of Living will set up a health centre to provide medical facilities for common ailments, basic emergency services as well as promote indigenous medical systems.  The health centre will also be used as a staging area for periodic medical camps in remote locations and for distribution of medicines at a subsidised price to other centres.

There is also a necessity to set up an orphanage and schools in the border districts to promote holistic value based education.  These projects will be executed via people to people programme with the Art of Living and Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), Mumbai and any NGO to work with the grassroots community leaders.

The Art of Living had earlier sent, as requested by the Governor and on the initiative by INFC, Mumbai, an Art of Living representative Rajesh (engineer) to meet the stakeholders in this project in ENPO area.  Rajesh (an Engineer) visited the areas and with the help of Deputy Commissioners concerned, made an assessment of the necessity and feasibility of different service projects.

He gave his report to Art of Living founder Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji during the meeting with Governor P.B. Acharya and Doctors from Mumbai at Bangalore on May 4.

It is important that this being a PPP project, concurrence from the Central Government, Medical Council/Nursing Council etc is also required.
