Does numerology have an effect? There is a number which I consider lucky for me, and there are certain numbers which are not so lucky. Is this just a notion in mind or the effect actually exists?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
That has some effect but the power of chanting ‘Om Namah Shivaye’ mantra is much more. The power of mantras can nullify the effect of any unlucky numbers, and then all the numbers will be lucky for you.More from the same conversation in the next post.
Q:
Can we achieve a goal within time? Please tell a way so that we may achieve a hundred percent result.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
There is a sukti in Sanskrit - Kriya siddi bhavati mahta, kriya siddhi bhavati satve mahta . An act is perfected by satva. The higher the satvaguna rises in us, an act is achieved easily and without hurdles. When rajoguna and tamoguna are increased, then it takes longer to complete a work. Thus, to increase the satva, follow a satvic diet, meditate, do satsang, pranayama and yoga. With all this, sadbuddhi (good sense) is developed.

How much freedom is to be given or restrictions are to beput on teenagers?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
You have forgotten because you havecrossed that stage and you don’t remember what turmoil they are goingthrough. There are so many hormonalchanges taking place in their body. Shake hands with them and gently guide themthrough this.Teenage feverishness is only for few years. Not onlyphysical but mental and emotional turbulence is so high in them. After the ageof three, children begin to experience all these emotions like jealousy, possessiveness and these continue till teenage. Some people don’t come out ofteenage at all. Mental turbulence is huge for them.
Teenage is a tough time. It needs great patience to dealwith teenage children. So with greatpatience, like a friend and philosopher, give them some space and at the sametime put your foot down and say ‘No’. Don’t be too loose at that time.

Can I practice silence and meditation by myself at home? For how many days?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Yes, you can practice meditation. Silence might be difficult at home. Keep as much silence as you can, but there is no need really. You come here (ashram) and practice silence. Once in a while, you can do it for one day. You can say: ‘Ok, I will be in silence for one day per month’. Unless there is such a congenial atmosphere at home, it is not possible and then people will also get confused and will wonder what has happened to you.Q:
What should I do to increase concentration?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
Do more advance courses.Q:
What is wrong with the current leadership in the world and perhaps our visionary leadership?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar:
I would say that the sense of belongingness is shrinking. There is a more self-centered, self-serving attitude rather than a sense of sacrifice for the cause. The vision and mission is really lacking.
