Smokeless Chullahs

Women face respiratory problems through cooking with firewood

The kitchen assumes an important place in the life of a rural woman. In many villages, firewood is used as a medium of cooking. Due to the lack of a proper ventilation system, the smoke gets accumulated in the kitchen and women tend to inhale large quantities of smoke, leading to respiratory problems.

Specially designed cooking stoves to provide smoke outlet

The problem was brought to light through one of the 5H programs conducted in the Kapsi village of Maharashtra. To help such women, The Art of Living volunteers designed 100 special cooking stoves. The double-stove construction has the provision for two cooking operations which can take place simultaneoulsy. It also provides a smoke outlet.
