Indian peace leader Swami Jyothirmayah set for UK-wide ‘happiness and wellbeing’ fundraising tour

7 Oct 2016

Global humanitarian and peace leader Swami Jyothirmayah will be visiting UK to teach yoga and meditation as part of a ‘Happiness Programme’ raising funds for underprivileged children and schools in India.

Jyothirmayah – a senior teacher of the Art of Living Foundation’s International Faculty – recently spoke to IndiaGBnews special reporter Rahul Laud about his forthcoming tour.

Internationally known by his spiritual name, Swami Jyothirmayah is in the midst of planning his third visit to the UK within the last year.

Earlier in June he visited the country with his Guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar followed by a second visit in July to lead Happiness and Wellbeing workshops in the UK.

His third visit slated to begin next week will encompass different cities including Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Doncaster, Leicester culminating on October 25 with a special concert on ‘Music and Meditation’ in London.

The tour will help to raise funds for the International Association of Human Values ‘Gift A Smile’ project which supports underprivileged children across India schools.

Jyothirmayah visited around 30 European countries last year to spread his message of peace conducting several ‘Health and Happiness’ programs and yoga workshops. In 2016, he is continuing the odyssey visiting more than 20 countries on the continent.

‘’The reality is that happiness lies in the present and neither in future nor past,” said Jyothirmayah. “People experience mood swings like changes in the weather and seek happiness in objects and events. One of the key challenges is the problem of attention deficiency. If the mind is not rested, then it leads to arguments and fighting which is not our nature.”

Jyothirmayah explained that he will share seven simple ways of achieving happiness to people in UK. They include: A few minutes’ people should devote to their Self (spirit); Silence brings innovation; We should understand the impermanence of creation; Random acts of kindness makes one happy. Meditation every day for few minutes helps; Smile should become cheaper and anger can be expensive: One should be a student forever; One should have gratitude in life.

Through his planned workshops and yoga sessions in the UK Jyothrimayah said he would teach the powerful technique of Sudarshan Kriya patented by the Art of Living. This powerful technique is designed to help people recognize the nature of joy. He said breathing techniques taught in programmes in UK will help people enhance peace of mind, clarity of mind, purity in heart and sincerity of actions.

“People’s needs have increased and they spend more time comparing their life with others. We cannot extend our time span but enhancing energy and calming the mind is an essential ingredient of life today,’” Jyothirmayah said.

Jyothirmayah who also works with people in nursing homes, hospitals and prisons reforms said the values of sharing, giving and being connected with people is an important factor towards attaining happiness. He said: ‘’Happiness can’t be achieved alone. Suffering is optional but pain is inevitable.’’

The schedule of workshops take place on October 11 to 13 in Edinburgh, October 14 to 16 in Manchester, October 15 in Leeds, October 17 to 19 in Doncaster, October 21-23 in Leicester, and October 25 in London with the music and meditation finale at the Sheraton Grand.
