You probably, like most people, feel the need for a change — the need to make your life better and your day a bit more joyful.
This article won’t tell you about abstract theories or scientific data about how much chocolate you should eat to boost your serotonin levels. Instead, it will offer you a few simple tips for having a truly happy day.
1. The day is set by the morning!
Your happy day needs the right start. Try to convince yourself the moment you wake up that today will be great, that you'll feel good.
Don’t lounge around in bed — it’s proven to reduce motivation. Get up and drink a glass of warm water to kick-start your metabolism.
It’s good to awaken both your body and your mind. We recommend doing this with yoga. Just 20 minutes are enough to feel comfortable in your body, filled with peace and energy. If you can, include a sun salutation in your morning practice.
If you’re not familiar with yoga yet, go for a jog in the park, do some light exercises, or simply stretch and breathe deeply on your balcony.
2. Don’t panic!
Don’t be overwhelmed by the hundreds of things you need to do in the coming hours — anxiety will only get in your way and certainly won’t make your day any happier.
Instead, make a plan — prioritize your tasks and start with the hardest and most important ones. That way, even if you don’t get everything done, you’ll have finished the essentials.
Don’t forget to celebrate every small win and achievement. And if you’re lacking motivation, reward yourself with little treats:
“When I finish this document, I’ll have an apple, daydream about my vacation, drink a cup of tea…”
3. Light, more light!
We like to think we’re superior to plants and animals, but just like them, we’re part of nature and subject to its rules. One of those rules is: to feel good, we need light — not from fluorescent office bulbs, but from real sunlight.
So if your job keeps you in an enclosed space with only artificial lighting, don’t forget to go outside for at least 20 minutes during your lunch break — or just walk home on foot.
4. Do a good deed — and toss it into the sea!
If you want a truly happy day, help someone in need.
Don’t do it for thanks or out of vanity — do it just because.
Buy food for someone hungry, help a stranger, pet a stray dog, or join a volunteer mission.
This will definitely make you feel good.
5. Sleep time!
Yes, that’s right — to be happy during the day, you need good sleep at night.
We’re not talking about getting more sleep — we rarely get the ideal 8 hours — but rather quality sleep.
Try to eat dinner at least two hours before going to bed and choose easy-to-digest food.
If you have trouble falling asleep, avoid TV or screens at least 30 minutes beforehand — screen light stimulates the brain and keeps it in work mode, not rest mode.
The best way to wind down is to sit in dim light with loved ones and relax — so you can rest and be ready for another happy day
