Each Finger on Our Hand Is Connected to a Specific Planet
The thumb is connected to Mars, which represents independence and self-reliance.The index finger is linked to Jupiter, the one who shows the way and acts as a guide. When you point at something, you use your index finger — that is Jupiter at work. The middle finger is connected to Saturn, the servant or the one who serves. The ring finger is associated with the Sun, the ruler. Which finger do we wear rings on? The ring finger — because the Sun is the king, and rings are worn on the finger that corresponds to it.The little finger is connected to Mercury.
When you perform a mudra like Chin Mudra, what actually happens? The index finger (Jupiter) and the thumb (Mars) come together — symbolizing the union of wisdom and power.
Why is the thumb associated with Mars? Because when you win, what do you do? You raise your thumbs up — a sign of victory. And when you lose — your thumbs point down. These gestures come naturally to us for a reason.
Different planets influence different parts of our body.
The teeth are governed by Saturn, the eyes by the Sun,the cheeks by Venus, the forehead by Mercury, and the nose is linked to Jupiter.
This reveals the fascinating connection between the microcosm and the macrocosm.
In a similar way, our emotions are influenced by the phases of the Moon. Emotional states rarely last more than two days and a few hours — the time the Moon remains in one zodiac sign. Once it moves, our mood shifts. For example, when the Moon and Saturn align, people tend to feel depressed.Wisdom lies in seeing that emotions and sensations come and go. Nothing is permanent!
There is no planet that stays in one place forever — they’re all constantly moving.
Go Beyond Negative Emotions
But when we start identifying with one of these moods, we get stuck in it — and that’s what holds us back. The emotion gets absorbed into the body, eventually causing illness or misfortune. Fascinating, isn’t it? So, what’s the way out? How do we change this?
Think about what a plane does during cloudy weather. It flies above the clouds — where the sun is shining.
This is exactly what spiritual practices help us do. They elevate us beyond the Chitta Akasha (the space of the mind) into the Chid Akasha (the space of pure consciousness).
In this way, we rise beyond all emotions.
The 9 planets move through 12 constellations, creating 108 elements of transformation. That’s why the mantra Om Namah Shivaya is chanted 108 times — to amplify positive change and minimize the negative.
This uplifts the spirit, charges us with energy, and takes us beyond — connecting us with Chid Akasha, the space of pure consciousness, which is the ultimate goal of yoga.
