What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite isn’t a favorite topic of conversation for many—especially when your thighs have that “orange peel” look and summer is in full swing. The truth is, there’s no right season for cellulite—it’s never welcome.
But just as there’s a reason for its appearance, there’s also a way to reduce it. The good news? You can reduce cellulite! You can genuinely help your body become more toned and wear those shorts with confidence.
What Is Cellulite?
Cellulite refers to fat deposits located beneath the skin, usually in the abdominal and lower pelvic areas such as the thighs and buttocks. Many factors contribute to the development of cellulite, including hormonal imbalances, poor diet and lifestyle, age, and genetic predisposition. While all of these can play a role, one of the most overlooked causes is toxin buildup in the body.
Consider this: for decades, many people have consumed packaged foods, refined sugar and salt, processed starches, cooked animal proteins, chemicals, pesticides, and preservatives. The nutrients in these are just 1% compared to the harmful components.
It’s no secret that many diseases are caused by stress. Yoga and breathing techniques can help you live a calm and healthy life. Join the Happiness Program by The Art of Living Foundation to learn how to support your body.
In addition, environmental pollution, alcohol consumption, smoking, and medications further overload the body with toxins. Unfortunately, our systems cannot fully eliminate this massive toxin load—especially if we continue unhealthy eating habits and neglect detoxification efforts.
How Can Yoga and Ayurveda Help Reduce Cellulite?
There are simple, natural ways to reduce and prevent cellulite that will help you look and feel your best. The two complementary sciences of Yoga and Ayurveda offer a gentle and effective path forward—without harsh interventions, just a few time-tested, proven practices.
At The Art of Living centers, you can learn how to integrate the wisdom of these two systems into your lifestyle for natural beauty and wellness.
Ayurveda, the ancient Indian holistic system of health, works by addressing the root cause of disease and imbalance in the body.

Warrior Pose (Virabhadrasana)
This pose effectively works on the legs, engages the abdominal area, and improves flexibility.
Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
If you’re targeting glutes, this is your go-to pose. It also works on the chest and upper back. This heart-opening pose helps deepen the breath and pumps oxygen-rich blood throughout the body.
Bow Pose (Dhanurasana)
Highly recommended, this pose burns belly fat while also toning the arms and legs. It’s an energizing asana that stretches the whole body and strengthens the heart center.
Breathing Exercises (Pranayama)
Breathwork is essential in any wellness program. Through breathing, we release a significant portion of accumulated toxins. Consult an Art of Living yoga instructor today and start taking care of your health—your external appearance will soon reflect your inner vitality.
Ayurvedic Advice
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. They should make up the largest portion of your diet. While they alone may not eliminate cellulite, combined with yoga and physical activity, they’ll lead to visible results. The key is to gradually increase your intake of fresh produce (especially vegetables), so the body can process toxins without overwhelming its detox systems.

Drink Plenty of Water
Aim for at least 3–4 liters a day. Water is essential not just for life but also for preventing and reducing cellulite. If plain water isn’t appealing, add a slice of lemon for a refreshing twist. Replace coffee with herbal teas and fresh vegetable juices to combat dehydration and acidity while nourishing your body with vitamins.
Cut the Salt
Avoid refined table salt. Instead, opt for sea salt or Himalayan crystal salt. Refined products are major culprits in the development of cellulite, so now is the time to leave them behind.
