What You’ll Get From Our Free Intro Session

Unlock Your Inner Potential

 Breathe More,
Stress Less

We rarely think about our breath, yet it shifts with every mood. Anxious, and it goes shallow and quick. Calm, and it slows and deepens. That link runs both ways: by working with the breath, we can steady the mind.

The techniques you'll meet in this session are drawn from time-tested practices and studied in peer-reviewed research for their effects on stress and wellbeing. In one free session, you won't just hear about that. You'll feel the difference in your own body.

“I used to be so tense. I'd be getting so angry, shouting, screaming, pushing around to get my orders through. Now when I realize I'm getting tense I just breathe and I calm down. I realize that I'm much more focused and much more productive.”

A Powerful Program Brought By Gurudev
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The Art of Living was founded in 1981 by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a globally recognised humanitarian and teacher. What began as a handful of breathing and meditation courses has grown into one of the world's largest volunteer-led wellbeing movements, taught in more than 180 countries.

At the centre of it all is a single idea: that a calm, clear mind is something anyone can learn, not a gift reserved for a few. The free session you're booking is your first step into that tradition.

Sudarshan Kriya™ at Yale

Watch How Yale students benefit from this powerful breath medtiation practice

Out of 3 programmes including Foundations of Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and the Sudarshan Kriya™, the Sudarshan Kriya™ showed the greatest impact benefiting six outcomes: depression, stress, mental health, mindfulness, positive affect, and social connectedness.

In a University of Arizona study, Sudarshan Kriya™ was compared with a workshop teaching conventional stress-management strategies. Participants rated both similarly, but Sudarshan Kriya™ showed greater immediate benefits for stress, mood and conscientiousness, with effects still measurable three months on. Under intense stress, the brain's rational-thinking centre is impaired, so trying to reason your way calm rarely works. Working with the breath gives you a way back to a steadier mind.

Isn't this moving a bit fast?

Nothing here is rushed. The free session is a gentle, guided taste. You decide if you want to go further. No pressure, no obligation.

Sounds too good to be true

That's exactly why the first session is free. You don't have to take our word for how it feels. You get to find out yourself.

I've tried meditation and it didn't work

Most meditation asks you to force a quiet mind, which is hard for almost everyone. This approach works with the breath first, so the calm arrives without the struggle.

What happens after the session?

If it resonates, you'll have the option to register for the Art of Living Part 1 course, where you learn the full Sudarshan Kriya practice. It's an option, not a requirement.

Questions Answered

Frequently asked questions

How long does the meditation class last?

The free introductory session runs for approximately 75 minutes, covering an introduction to the technique plus a guided practice. Timing can vary slightly between online and in-person sessions. Your confirmation email will have the exact schedule for your session, or call 1300 067 004 to check before you book.

Do I need any experience to attend?

No experience is required. These sessions are built for complete beginners as well as anyone who's tried meditation before and found it didn't stick. A trained instructor guides you through the technique step by step, so there's nothing to prepare or know in advance. Sessions are for adults; ask our team about child-specific programs if you're enquiring for a young person.

Is the free session really free, with no obligation to sign up for anything?

Yes. The introductory session is completely free and there's no obligation to continue afterward. If it resonates, you can choose to register for the Art of Living Part 1 course to learn the full Sudarshan Kriya™ practice, but that's entirely optional. Nothing about attending the free session requires payment or commitment.

Is this program online or in person?

Both. You can attend a free session online or in person, whichever suits you. Use the "Search Programs" tool on this site to see current online and in-person options near you.

Can I attend a session online if there's no class near me?

Yes. Classes run both online and in person, so distance from a centre isn't a barrier. Use the "Search Programs" tool on this site to see current online and in-person options. Online sessions are led live by the same certified instructors as in-person classes, just delivered over video.

What should I bring or wear to my first session?

Wear comfortable, loose clothing you're happy to sit in for the session. No equipment or preparation needed, just show up. If you're attending in person, arrive a few minutes early to settle in; if online, find a quiet space where you won't be interrupted.

What happens if I want to go further than the free session?

You can register for the Art of Living Part 1 course, which teaches the complete Sudarshan Kriya™ practice over several sessions. It's optional and most people who continue do so because they've already felt the effect in the free session, not because of any pressure to sign up.

How soon will I start seeing results? And do they last?

Research shows physical & mental health benefits are often shown from the very first session. And results are cumulative; they grow stronger over time.

Results also seem to have a lasting effect. In one study cited by Prevention Magazine, not only did people’s anxiety reduce 44%, but it lasted for 6 months. Results from studies on people with PTSD and depression also show sustained effects. See details and references at www.artofliving.org/au-en/sudarshan-kriya
