Raja Yoga

The Royal Path or the Path of Kings is the path of knowledge that was given to kings of noble lineage. Raja Yoga is the path of mental discipline. We have the freedom and the ability to choose our inner state, regardless of the condition of our body or our external environment. In Raja Yoga, we learn to consciously choose a calm inner state that permeates every layer of our being, including the body, creating radiant health and well-being.

Raja Yoga is very similar to Hatha Yoga; both are related to Sadanga, or the Yoga of the Six Limbs. The main difference is that Raja Yoga places greater emphasis on meditation—especially effortless meditation and a life free from suffering, a message often repeated by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during his courses and talks.

To enter into our inner Self, Raja Yoga offers us many meditative (Dhyana) techniques. Some of them require us to direct our attention to different energy centers in the body, which correspond to specific emotional patterns in the mind. Other techniques use sound to create resonance and healing vibrations throughout the system. There are also meditative techniques that use the power of the breath to calm the mind and induce a peaceful state.

In Sri Sri Yoga, we experience various meditations that lead to beautiful inner transformation. After the practice of asanas and pranayamas in Sri Sri Yoga, the experience of meditation becomes especially deep and powerful.
