Sankalpa: Turn your desires into powerful intentions

“If twenty desires arise in mind, nothing gets done.”- Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Desires bog us in clusters. With them, they bring in their constant companion, feverishness. The clusters confuse the mind and make it weak. The feverishness takes away the mind’s peace. A non-rested and weak mind makes the manifestation of a desire almost impossible. However, a desire can be turned into something more powerful. It can be turned into a sankalpa or an intention!

What is a sankalpa?

Sankalpa or intention is a desire that has arisen from a peaceful and a strong mind. A sankalpa is surrendered to the universe. It lacks the feverishness of a usual desire simply because ‘your’ desire becomes the desire of the universe!

How can you take a sankalpa?

Navratri pujas and homas are a perfect opportunity to turn your desires into intentions. The pujas and homas make the mind rested and alert. From a peaceful mind, only powerful intentions arise. There is also an ancient process that taps the immense energy created during homas and pujas to make our sankalpa more powerful. The experienced pundits performing the pujas and homas aid the process.

How does it work?

When we take a sankalpa during the Navratri pujas and homas, we invite the Universe to listen to our intention. So, an essential step of taking a sankalpa is to pray and surrender the intention to the Divine. We don’t keep thinking about it or get worked up. We work for it, let go and rest in the faith that only the best will happen to us.
