These 7 Easy Tips Will Help You Have a Deeper Experience of Meditation

By Volunteer | Posted: April 22, 2020

Even if you practice meditation regularly, you may have noticed that at times, your mind still becomes tangled in a world of thoughts. Learning how to properly meditate is the first step towards a more fulfilling practice, but in order to have deeper experiences in meditation, sometimes you have to take things a step further. These 6 tips will help!

1. Bring a smile to someone else’s face

Extending a helping hand to those in need is always a satisfying feeling. When you reach out to people who need help or assistance, then you feel happy, and a burst of positive energy flows through you. The reason for this expansion of the Self is that when you do service and bring a smile to someone’s face, you raise your own vibrations and recognize the blessings you already enjoy, soothing anxiety and allowing you to go deeper into meditation.

2. Experience the sound of silence

The next time you see a sunrise, fix your gaze at the vast, serene sky, and observe how you feel the deep silence within, oneness with the rising sun, and the serenity of the early morning. Take a few moments to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, and you will begin to see that beauty reflected within, too.

This happens because in silence, there are fewer thoughts and your mind settles down. Most of the time, the mind tends to chatter away, and our senses are busy collecting information and bombarding us with thoughts and impressions of the world around us.

Silence complements meditation. When you are silent, your mind slows down, and you slip into deep meditation more easily.

3. Pamper your body with yoga

Have you observed that some days you feel very restless during your meditation, and are unable to go deeper? Long working hours can make your body stiff and achy, which actually makes you more restless. Getting on the mat for some yoga asanas can free you from this stiffness and release restlessness. With this, your mind settles down and allows you to have a deeper experience in meditation.

4. Watch what you eat

Think about the days you meditate after having oily, fried food, compared to the days you meditate after having light and healthy food. If you observe, there is a difference in the quality of your meditation. Your food has a direct impact on the state of your mind.

As a meditator, an ideal diet should include grains, green vegetables, fresh fruits, salads, and soups, all specifically chosen to nourish your unique constitution, easy to digest, and high in prana (life force).

5. Sing to yourself

It is a known fact that different types of music trigger different emotions. Sound has a profound effect on us. Singing in satsangs (spiritual gatherings) purifies emotions, and helps you feel a sense of expansion. With music, the ‘little mind’ that chatters incessantly is silenced, and when you meditate, you have a deeper experience.
