27th of Aug 2019

KOLHAPUR: The district administration will organize three-day trauma relief camps across the 10 flood-affected villages in the district from Wednesday.

District collector Daulat Desai said expenses and logistics for conducting Art of Living camps will be borne by the administration.

“Villages where the camps will be held include Chandur, Ingle, Rui, Nilewadi Halondi ,  June Pargaon, Dattwad, Nrusinhwadi, and Khidrapur. The sessions will begin at 6pm and end at 9pm. The required logistic and expenses will be provided by the administration,” Desai said.

He added that such camps have the ability to generate inner peace.

“Citizens are under tremendous trauma due to the flood and the tragedy it has caused. What next is the main question for many citizens in terms of their livelihood? Hence, providing a ray of hope is essential in such a situation,” Desai said.

“The Kolhapur district got good help and many volunteers contributed in rescue missions. This is why situation is getting restored speedily. The trauma relief camps are of immense help in this situation as it calms down a person,” he added.

Desai said that other than Art of Living no other agency or NGO has approached them for counselling or trauma relief camps.

“If any external agency comes to us for holding counselling sessions, we can think about it. In the first phase the said villages have been shortlisted and more will be selected for such camps in phases. It is a three-day activity and can be organized in other flood-affected areas as well,” he said.

Being asked if there are any plans for counselling sessions for students from the flood-affected region, Desai replied in negative.
