Meditation helps one realise purpose of life, says Sri Sri

19th of Nov 2017

Spiritual Guru, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, on the second day of ‘Antarang Varta’ at Divisional Sports Complex on Saturday, explained the importance of Shraddha (Belief or faith), Bhakti (devotion) and Shourya (courage) in one’s life.

A person who practices meditation becomes aware of a natural love, courage and deep feeling of everything being perfect. This person never feels anxiety as his mind is freed from limitations. Meditation also gives the feeling of separation from life and all living things becomes less, and a natural courage shines through. Meditation is the only tool which helps a person to realise the purpose of life, he added.

Shraddha helps a person to become mature in life. In meditation, mind gets relaxed in one’s own consciousness. The mind in rest tells truth. Shraddha is not just faith, it is to love something that is beyond the purview of knowing. And if one is willing to look beyond what is already known, then the vast wealth of knowledge embraces them, Gurudev said.

The spiritual master, Gurudev explained in details about Bhakti. Bhakti which is made up of four letters ‘bha’ ‘ka’ ‘ta’ and ‘I’ (ee) ‘Bha’ stands for fulfillment and nourishment. ‘Ka’ stands for knowing - a means of knowing. ‘Ta’ stands for redeeming, for saving, for salvation. ‘I’ (ee) stands for shakti. Therefore, bhakti is the virtue which helps a person to get four things like fulfillment and nourishment; means of knowing; ‘tarana’ or salvation; and energy. Bhakti saves you. Bhakti nourishes you. Bhakti is the means of knowing, the right knowledge. When Bhakti is there, the doubts don’t come. It gives the most energy. So Bhakti contains as the seed all the four qualities, he added.

People face emotional outbursts because they did not know Bhakti. When all intense feelings flow in one direction it becomes Bhakti. What is the difference between a canal and a flooded field? In a flood what happens is the water does not have a bank to flow in. When the water flows within banks you call it ‘river’. When water is scattered all over, it’s all flooded. So when the emotions get flooded everywhere, mind is in a mess. If it is intensely flowing in a direction, then that is Bhakti. And that is most powerful. A sign of Intelligence is Surrender or Bhakti, Gurudev stated. He also answered different questions of devotees. He assured them to rewrite their own histories and achieve goals in life.
The sessions of meditation and power yoga were wonderful and enjoyed by devotees.
