Independence Day or ‘Interdependence
Day’ ?

15th of Aug 2016

Real Freedom

Today over a billion Indians are celebrating the Independence Day, commemorating the birth of a free and democratic nation 70 years ago. This Independence Day let us seek real freedom by freeing our own mind from cravings and aversions. Hating others is no freedom. Today we are all interdependent. At one point of time, we wanted independence, but today we will have to wake up and acknowledge that we are interdependent on each other.

Interdependence Day

The Independence Day should also be understood as ‘Interdependence Day’. Every state is related to another state and each country is dependent on other countries. We cannot just declare ourselves independent until our relations with our neighbors improve. Otherwise we will continue to be disturbed by them and vice versa. It is imperative for us to understand the importance of improving our relationships this Independence Day!

Viveka

The right sense of discrimination (viveka) that is imperative for improving relations, can only be awakened through spiritual power. Lets work together to enliven the spirit, create a wave of happiness throughout the country and exhibit the true quality of our independence as well as reap its benefits.

Freedom from ignorance and impurity

We say we are independent today, yet we are unhappy. What’s the point? We wanted independence for attaining happiness, but what we find is widespread unhappiness, corruption, and poverty! This is not real freedom. We will have to fight for a different type of freedom today. Freedom from ignorance and impurity(of both our inner and outer environments). Its only through spiritual knowledge and right education that ignorance can be eliminated.

Work together for a  progressive India

Lack (insufficiency) will have to be removed by attaining self respect. With self respect, we should boost productivity and create wealth in our country. Let us work hard and use our creativity to eliminate lack, ignorance and impurity. Then we will truly gain freedom. Its time to awaken from slumber, gather courage, remember the sacrifice of our ancestors and act for a progressive India.
