How is Sudarshan Kriya (SKY) different from other breathwork techniques?
In the Art of Living, we have this beautiful technique called Sudarshan Kriya, also called SKY. Sudarshan Kriya takes you to the deepest meditation where body, mind, and breath come in the rhythm, connecting to the source of life deep within. In a short period of time, it just lifts the veil from our spirit and then makes you realize you are not just the body.
It helps to get rid of stress first of all. Usually, people say, “My mind is all over the place. I cannot meditate.” But you will not complain that if you know Sudarshan Kriya, if you have done Sudarshan Kriya, the moment you finish the rhythm and the cycles of breath, meditation starts happening within you effortlessly.
Why is a live instructor led workshop needed for learning Sudarshan Kriya - as opposed to an app based meditation?
You can argue that one can learn swimming, driving, or horse riding by watching YouTube videos but it's much more effective and efficient to learn these skills with an instructor.
You can get better at 'doing' with more information and practise. But meditation is about 'non-doing' and any 'doing' to get better at it may be counterproductive.
Nakul Dhawan: Meditation is not limited to a specific area of your life. Like, you'll ask only swimming-related queries to your swimming instructor. But meditation has a great impact on your mind, which is involved in all aspects of your life.
Can I use these breathing techniques for workplace stress and productivity?
Stress is the product of too much to do, too little time, and no energy. That's the formula for stress. When you practise Sudarshan Kriya and meditation, you have more energy. Then you are able to manage the stress much better.
With a restless mind, you can't achieve anything. This fact has been overlooked. A simple habit of meditating every day, 20 minutes during the lunch break, can radically relax the mind and make it more centred and focused. Then you see how the productivity will increase.
Has scientific research been done on the Sudarshan Kriya technique?
There are more than a hundred studies that validate the techniques that are taught in this workshop.
Independent research has shown that the Sudarshan Kriya technique significantly:
Reduces levels of stress (reduces cortisol - the "stress" hormone)
Supports the immune system
Increases optimism
Relieves anxiety and depression (mild, moderate, and severe)
Increases antioxidant protection
Enhances brain function (increased mental focus, calmness, and recovery from stressful stimuli)

How soon will I start noticing changes in stress levels, focus, or happiness?
It doesn’t take a long time. With the Sudarshan Kriya, it’s so immediate. Just two days of practice, one hour each day, cleanses the body so much, makes you feel so light.
Participants report feeling a big change during the workshop itself. And with regular practice, course participants notice reduced stress and anxiety, better sleep, a stronger immune system, and increased energy levels.
