Solar Energy Institute Hosts Mega Job Fair; Companies Encourage Entrepreneurship

Bengaluru:  Many engineering graduates and diploma holders today are facing low employability due to lack of suitable skills. An intervention to bridge the talent gap is crucial to enhance the employability potential of the youth. To address the challenge, SSRDP (Sri Sri Rural Development Program) of The Art of Living hosted a Kaushal Mela (Job Fair) for the solar energy sector on Oct 27, 2017, at Bengaluru.

Six prominent companies in the solar technology industry, including Home Automation and Security Pvt. Ltd., Almas Edge Technologies, Elephant Renewables Pvt. Ltd., Micron EMS, Vidyotha Electricals Services, and Load Controls India Pvt. Ltd. were present at the mega event. Over 200 students from different schools and engineering institutes also attended the fair, and many received job offers. The dignitaries present were Mr. K.V Subramanian, the Labor Commissioner, Mr. C V Ramadurgaprasad, the Labor Enforcement Officer and Mr. Debjyothi Mohanti – the Director of YLTP (Youth Leadership Training Program).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Debjyothi said, “The training given by the solar training center of The Art of Living not only imparts skills but is also an important medium to build the nation.” He announced that the team is creating a platform for nation building through skill development, and the program will be launched on January 23 in New Delhi.

Mr. Akshay of Elephant Renewables Pvt. Ltd emphasized that the solar energy sector is a booming industry and encouraged students to take advantage of the Startup India program and become entrepreneurs and contribute to the economic growth of the country. His thoughts were echoed by other speakers at the event.

The courses at the SSRDP institute are designed to help students get work-ready and build their careers as entrepreneurs, leaders, and skilled employees. The institute has trained over seven hundred students so far, 400 in 2017 alone, most of whom have secured gainful employment.

At the institute, the training not only focuses on skill development but also on soft skills training. Meditation and yoga are also taught to help in their all rounded development.

SSRDP has been conducting skills courses under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The institute mostly caters to students from rural colleges and creates an opportunity for them to enhance their lives. With over 30 centers throughout the country, the organization is training one lakh students in various skills, including housekeeping/hospitality, beauty parlor, agriculture, ayurveda and solar technology, among others.
