AoL conducts women health,
wellness workshops

JAMMU, May 30: Art of Living (AoL) has launched the Project Pavitra-a nationwide initiative for enhancing adolescent girl’s menstrual health and hygiene.
The vision of the project is to empower girls with knowledge and generating awareness amongst adolescent girls about menstrual health and hygiene via sensitisation programmes in rural areas and urban slums.

For the Project Pavitra, 321 dynamic female Yuvacharyas and 1650 volunteer trainers from 25 States of India have been trained to spread awareness on menstrual health and hygiene amongst adolescent girls.

AoL Jammu conducted Women’s Health and Wellness Workshop at its various centers in Jammu and Kathua with live interaction with renowned Gynaecologists.
In the programme over 250 females were made aware about the normal phenomenon of menstruation and menstrual health and hygiene management, eliminating social taboos, how to abide to healthy eating and physical fitness lifestyles.

A handout stated that in India, 200 million girls lack awareness of menstrual hygiene and associated healthcare practices. 66% girls don’t even know about menstruation when they first start their period. 23% adolescent girls drop out of when they start menstruating and those who don’t usually miss up to 5 days of school every month.

At Trikuta Nagar in Jammu, Dr. Shivani and Dr. Vidushi guided females about various health issues like iron deficiency, anaemia, menopause, PID’s family planning, also awared about breast cancer and cervical cancer and gave general health tips for a healthy life style.
