Gujarat flood relief work:
Get involved now

Several areas of Gujarat have been badly affected by floods, leaving people stranded, and damaging life and property. Around 1200 Art of Living volunteers have swung into action, preparing food packages and relief material. Besides the immediate relief work, planning for a sustainable rehabilitation program has also begun.

125,000 food packets and truckloads of supplies have been distributed by The Art of Living volunteers working tirelessly in affected areas.

  • 150,00 grocery kits provided comprising wheat flour, rice, pulses, sugar, tea, oil, salt, spices, potato, onion, matchboxes, candles
  • 10000 blankets
  • Over 4 truckloads of clothes distributed
  • Food kits to feed a family of 4 people for a period of 10 days
  • 5000 blankets
  • 5000 rubber slippers
  • 1000 tarpaulin type plastic sheets to the affected people
  • 10,000 sarees for women and clothes for children and men are being collected

The efforts have covered the following areas:

  1. Banaskantha district
    This is one of the most affected areas. Over 75000 food packets along with over 250 cartons of biscuits and over 20,000 dry snack packets have been distributed here.
  2. Vasad
    15000 food packets have been dispatched to Anand. 12500 food packets were made in three days.
  3. Dholka taluka, Ahmedabad
    Over 15000 food packets have been distributed.
  4. Ahmedabad
    Over 2500 food packets have been distributed in the slums in Ahmedabad city.
  5. Surendranagar
    Over 1000 food packets have been distributed by our volunteers.
  6. Rajkot
    Medical kits have been sent to affected areas.
  7. Patan, Surat, Unjha
    Relief material has been collected and sent to affected areas.
  8. Thara taluka
    This is the most affected taluka in Banaskantha. A group of 25 volunteers visited Kariya village and relief camps where 5000 people have been rescued by the Army and the State government. The Art of Living has started a control center in Thara Taluka.

5000 raw material food kits to last families for 10 days are being prepared. Each of these kits contains:

  • Rice - 2kg
  • Tuver (Toor) daal - 1kg
  • Mag (Moong) daal - 1kg
  • Sugar - 1kg
  • Oil - 1kg
  • Tea - 250gm
  • Matchsticks - 2 boxes
  • Candles - 2 boxes
  • Wheat flour - 5kg
  • Jaggery - 1kg
  • Salt - 1kg
  • Chili powder - 200gm
  • Haldi (Turmeric) powder - 100gm
  • Jeera (Cumin seeds) - 100gm
  • Rai (Mustard seeds) - 100gm
  • Onions - 1kg
  • Potatoes - 2kg
  • Masala puri
  • Boondi
  • Water bottles

The approximate cost of each food kit is Rs. 750.
