#OpenUpInLockdown: Add creativity to each day with these simple ideas

It’s a little challenging and overwhelming for many of us to stay at home for so long because of the lockdown. But while we don’t have much choice there, why not do something which would make this stay-at-home experience more fun?

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says, “This is the time to be creative – write poems, come up with new recipes, learn an instrument or languages or paint! When you are creative, you break the monotony of time. Everything comes alive. Creativity brings along with it a lot of enthusiasm and energy.”

And this is exactly what we need to deal with the current scenario - lots of positivity, enthusiasm, and energy! Here are a few creative ideas suggested by Gurudev to add creativity to each day.

Take the master chef challenge

Tell them how to make dhoklas, theplas, upma, or dosa. You guide them - take this, do this. Give them the instructions. Anyway, they will come running to ask you. But you are on strike! Remember, all the women at home are on strike. One day! You are not going to clean the vessels. Let the kids do that.

So, do things which you normally don’t do or you don’t have time to do! I tell you, people would enjoy it. These days, you’ll make your husband a better cook. Every member of your family can become a better cook. Instead of getting cooked, being frustrated at home, they can learn to be a better cook.

New day-new dish challenge

Another thing that you can all do easily: prepare food from different parts of India. Make Gujarati food, one day. And that day you make sure one of you selects ten Gujarati words or sentences. Children should learn those ten sentences in Gujarati. The second day - Tamil Nadu day. That day no roti will be made at home. So idli, dosa, rasam and pick ten Tamil words. And everybody should learn or say it. Practice it ten times! The third day – pick up Bengali. The fourth day – pick up Assamese.

You know national integration will happen these days. You will learn at least ten sentences from all languages in this country. In Switzerland, everyone must learn three languages: German, French, and Italian. Children have to study these languages in school. Here we, of course, learn English and we learn our mother tongue. But we don’t care or bother to learn other languages.

So there is a division among the population. Though you live there, you don’t respect the language of the place or learn it. Already a distance is being created. Try to learn five sentences in Khasi. People from Manipur do not feel connected to the rest of India. Why? The communication gap has widened for so many years.

This is the time for us to take that step. Let everyone learn ten sentences from that state. Celebrate Tripura Day. So you can create these few days as days of celebration, as days of fun. Help people to use their creativity. This is the time to use our creativity.

Break the monotony challenge

Tell everyone: “Okay, each one of you makes a drawing!” Spend half an hour drawing, writing a story, writing a song, or composing music! These are the activities you can do. I think this is the time to learn languages, music, arts, and explore science. It gives you a bigger context for your life.

Give this a shot

Instead of watching a TV serial all the time; watch those that can improve your general knowledge, which will give you more ideas about the universe around you. These things are more relaxing. If you watch something about the stars, galaxy, our Milky Way, the Black Hole - it doesn’t strain you so much. Instead, it expands your consciousness. It gives you a bigger context in your life. These things can also calm anger. Create a positive atmosphere. Once you are determined and decide to stay positive, you can. Give miracles a chance. You will see the magic happening!

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says: “The more we relax into ourselves; we bring out creativity and happiness.” Learn a few profound relaxation techniques to unleash your creativity and stay positive in these testing times.
